I have a bad feeling about this

The Republicans were totally outplayed. They should have sucked up a little bad press and held a vote last Friday.

The lawyer from Maricopa County proved beyond any doubt that the Democrats were playing Republicans the whole time, working for maximum delay. For example the excuse that Ford was afraid to fly was proved to be totally bogus, she flies all the time. Obviously Democrats were paying for all of her expenses like the polygraph test, and obviously she has been coached for this performance. I think this went over the heads of the average swing voter. Including swing voter citizens voting in the next election, and certain swing-voting Republican Senators. All they are going to care about is that Ford is very good at testifying. She would be a dream victim-witness for a prosecutor in a criminal rape trial.

This is not like any normal legal proceeding, it’s a kangaroo court. Every five minutes, a Democratic Senator is allowed to spend five minutes saying how awesome and how believable Ford is. Instead of Republicans using their time to do the opposite, they have ceded all of their time to a lawyer from Phoenix who is totally out of her league here. I’m sure she’s a perfectly competent prosecutor at a real criminal trial (which is what she’s experienced at doing), but here she has no idea who she’s supposed to be representing or what she’s supposed to be doing. Kavanaugh has no one representing his interests in this circus of a proceeding.

* * *

So to restate this, although I think that the woman hired by the Republicans proved, to those paying attention, that Democrats LIED LIED LIED about the circumstances of how Ford came to their attention, how she got hooked up with a left-wing lawyer, how they DELAYED DELAYED DELAYED to their tactical advantage, many of those people may still come away believing that Kavanaugh is a rapist (because of Ford’s nearly emotionally perfect testimony with barely any rebuttal), and that Democrats’ bad faith and dirty tricks doesn’t mean that a rapist should be allowed to be a Supreme Court Justice.

Is Kavanaugh a rapist? There is no corroborating evidence of any sort, and no examination of how Ford came upon this memory. Everyone who was named by Ford as being at the gathering where this happened say that they don’t remember any such gathering. It’s perfectly plausible that Ford convinced herself of something that never happened, and it’s perfectly plausible that Ford is knowingly lying because she’s #resisting against Republicans.

It’s also plausible that a reasonable jury, if they knew all of the real facts, would believe that Kavanaugh was justified in thinking he had consent for whatever happened (as all the evidence points to Kavanaugh and Ford being in a clique not of prudish religious Catholics, but in a hard-drinking partying crowd with loose sexual morals doing stuff that would shock older religious people in the midwest), although Kavanaugh has used the Bill Clinton defense which is that none of this ever happened. There’s a double standard that it’s OK for Bill Clinton to lie about sex, but not OK for a conservative to do the same.

He says that he was a virgin because he was a good catholic boy busy with his church, but in the same breath the imbecile testifies against himself by indicating that he had sex BEFORE marriage. You can’t fix stupid.

On my first ride to Rikers I was chained to a huge light skinned nigga, who had done 8 years upstate. So I asked him what I needed to know. He goes: ‘Don’t ask any questions, don’t tell anybody anything about yourself and get Long John (it was winter)’.

Kavanaugh tried to be moral. That he waited so long is a testament to his self-control. But no one is perfect. He didn’t get married until he was almost 40. So it’s not surprising that somewhere along the way he had sex with a girlfriend. I don’t see admitting that as testifying against himself.

There is nothing to gain by displaying what in his belief system is a failure due to a weakness of character. As SC candidate he is judged by everything that he does.

Religion has to accommodate biology because biology will always triumph in this struggle. Early marriage is the way to deal with this particular conflict.

Exactly, a lot of people know nothing about Catholicism or Christianity, Being a Catholic doesn’t mean you are sinless, in fact, it assumes you aren’t by having the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of the Sick. These wouldn’t be needed if Catholics never sinned.

Some Catholics drink alcohol. Ever heard of France, Italy or Ireland? They drink there.

I doubt there was that much sex at his school in the early 80’s. Probably no more than other schools and maybe less than the average public high school.

  2. When you fine yourself in a hole, it’s time to stop digging…

Republicans also fall prey, because they get tricked into believing their own BS. All the right-wing commentariat was so sure that Ford’s testimony was going to fall apart. “She’s stupid”, “she’s crazy”, “she’s unstable”, and on and on.

Well, she has a PhD from USC and a math-y MS from Stanford. So, maybe an HBD-aware observer could surmise that she probably has her shit together, speaks articulately, and sounds convincing. At least much more so than the median rape trial witness. I tried to bring this up beforehand, but all the responses were “Stanford and USC are just a bunch of left-wing echo chambers filled with SJWs. Those degrees don’t mean anything.”

Actually, no. We may not like the ideology at elite universities, but you have to acknowledge the reality that they’re filled with really smart, competent people that you don’t want to sit across a chessboard from.

She is perhaps slightly mentally unstable–two front doors, PTSD, seeing a therapist.
There did seem to be a lot of drinking. Maybe a lot of the Catholic school kids are of Irish decent. The Irish are known to take a few drinks. It was sad what Kavanaugh said about his friend Mark Judge, who apparently drank heavily all through high school.

Those are the ones who need to be voted out. But everyone else is stepping up. Even Lindsay Graham is on board now. And the trend is for Trumpist politicians to win and anti-Trumpists to lose. What they can do, and have been succesful at doing, is show that he is a liar, an abusive drunk, a bully and emotionally weak. None of those qualities are criminal, but are generally not consistent with being a Supreme Court Justice. Those are also qualities that probably aren’t endearing Kav to Trump at the moment.

The most obvious lie was Kavanaugh repeated claim that statements from witnesses say what Ford described did not happen at any party Kavanaugh attended. What those statements say is that the witnesses do not recall a party like the one she described or events like she described. She described a high school party 36 years ago. Is it surprising that people who had nothing traumatic happen to them at this party 36 years ago do not remember it?

To me it was pretty obvious that Kavanaugh was trying to put up a strong defense for his case, but he was obviously not completely honest. Do we really want someone on the Supreme Court who can not tell the difference between a witness statement that says something didn’t happen and one that says I don’t recall an event like that 36 years ago?
