It looks very cluttered and prole, not at all like the Starship Enterprise.

  1. Why does this have to be in Google Street View? There are no streets there. Photos of the ISS have been freely available on the internet for a long time.

This blog has jumped the shark if you’ve resorted to calling the ISS “prole.”

  2. IMO the reasons it looks so cluttered are that 1) there’s so little space (no pun intended) because the cost of getting stuff into orbit is astronomical (no pun intended) and 2) there’s no artificial gravity like there was in Star Trek, where it was always just taken for granted and never explained because, of course, it’s impossible to film realistic-looking weightlessness without actually having your studio in space. There was even an episode of TNG, Disaster, in which an accident rendered all but the most basic life support functions of the Enterprise inoperable, yet inexplicably, the artificial gravity continued uninterrupted and nobody even remarked upon this fact.

  3. These pictures show how limited our current space development capabilities are. Sending a kg of material into space costs about 22.000 USD, which makes it uneconomical to send enough materials to create a larger base. With a budget of USD 10bn you can barely put in orbit 450 tons – the weight of an early XVI century carrack to draw an historical parallel.

We have a very long way to walk before we will be able to create a decent sized base on the moon or put in orbit objects large enough to provide some comforts like artificial gravity or decent sized accomodation

  4. The ISS is prole? Fine, put in an independently-owned coffee shop that only sells fair-trade coffee, a sandwich shop to get you bacon-and-avocado-on-gluten-free-bread, and a vintage clothing/record store.

    Would that help?

  5. Perhaps you would prefer the Ares III layout in The Martian.

    • Yes, the Ares III design looks like it was influenced by the ISS, but they cleaned it up and made it look a lot better.

  6. Prole? Looks more like some sort of lab, or submarine, or operating theatre on a hospital ship.
Everything is tied to the walls so it won’t float around.

It looks clean and organized. You want them to hire an interior designer?

An interior designer could definitely help.

  7. There is a video showing ISS. A mungo living in dumpster has better living standards than the people living in ISS.

  8. People still believe in outer space? Lol. Google Eric Dubay.

  10. Otoh, I always thought the capacious dimensions shown in Star Trek and most sci first were ludicrous. It’s always going to be more like a sub or tank.
