Another mass shooting

Early eyewitness accounts suggested that the shooter, who may have dressed in all black with a large trench coat, threw a smoke grenade into the bar before opening fire with a handgun.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2018/11/08/mass-shooting-southern-california-dance-bar-what-happened/1927903002/

Sounds like beta-male rage. A white supremacist nutcase wouldn’t be wearing a black trench coat, and he would be using an AR-15 and not a handgun.

* * *

There were some tweets about the shooter possibly being Middle Eastern, but I doubt that will pan out.

* * *

Gunman was 29 years old, “heavily tattooed,” and drove his mother’s car. Definitely not Islamic terrorism. Religious Muslims believe that tattooing causes impurity and that tattoos were prohibited by the Prophet Muhammad.

If he drove his mother’s car because he doesn’t have his own car, that would make beta-male rage more likely. I’m not sure how the tattoos fit in with the typical profile of a beta-male-rager.

* * *

David Ian Long, white male.

* * *

Marine war veteran with PTSD (allegedly).

* * *

I don’t think it’s beta-male rage. Ex-marine with tattoos, doesn’t sound very beta to me. It’s just regular rage.

* * *

I categorize this shooting as “prole rage.”

    • Not too old to be incel. But I’m guessing PTSD since he’d apparently had problems before, or possibly some combination of the two.

      “Ex-marine with tattoos, doesn’t sound very beta to me. It’s just regular rage”

      I served with guys who were in very “macho” specialties, and quite good at them, who were nonetheless meek, awkward or even frightened in social situations involving women. Self confidence in one area doesn’t guarantee self confidence in others.

      • Not an Incel case. According to news reports Long had been married, though briefly, and had had at least one girlfriend at some point. Also, being a sports fan is a sign of normalcy in men, and makes them more desirable to women, and Long reportedly was an LA Dodgers fan. Not the same as being an NFL follower of course, but infinitely better than being into something like sci-fi or D&D.

    • Most of the people he killed were white because T.O. is a wealthy suburb of LA and that’s pretty much all they have there. Many of the students were from Pepperdine, so they were even wealthier for the most part. The bar may have had a country theme, but the kids hanging out there were not part of the culture you associate with country music.

  7. Setting fire to the entrances would have been more deadly (cars on fire, gasoline, tiers, extra PVC)
    a few regular grenades with heavy fragments would be more deadly and they are easy to make. Scoring only 12 kills sounds very strange for a Marine, so either ) a not going for body count (specific targets + few extras) or b) completely crazy.

    And again, a handgun bullet has about 20 – 25 % kill ratio for a single torso hit (50 % cheest, 10 – 15 % abdomen) while a good 5.56 ammo with appropriate barel lenght/twist will have about 70 % lethality (single torso hit).

    Even Paddock failed big time, btw – I guess below 120 or crazy (bump stocks on bipods suck and the distance likely negated some effects of his ammo – he fired about 1/2 the bullets he could have and the real body count should have been 100 – 150.

  8. From the L.A. Times:

    Ian David Long, 28, lived in Newbury Park, not far from the club where he threw smoke bombs and rained bullets on a crowd of more than a hundred people Wednesday night.

    Sheriff Geoff Dean said his department had had several interactions with Long, including a call to his home in April for a complaint of disturbing the peace. Deputies at the time said Long was irate and acting irrationally, Dean said. They called in mental health professionals to evaluate him, and they concluded he did not need to be taken into custody.

    In the neighborhood where Long lived, residents said they were well aware of his problems.

    Richard Berge, 77, said the former Marine had PTSD and was known to kick in the walls of the home. Long lived with his mother, Berge said.

    “She’s a very sweet woman, but she had a lot of problems with the son,” Berge said. “I just know he tore the house up.”

      Obviously he is a neighbor, since they merely list his age. Americans are famous for living for years next to people and not even knowing them. Yet, here is this guy giving intimate details.

  9. This is a strange one. Whenever I hear “ex-Marine,” my first thought is, why isn’t this guy in some well-paying LE position? After all, mil vets receive preference. He was a relatively good-looking guy, too. And it was a country music bar, a milieu you’d expect a mil vet to be comfortable with. Really sad that at this late date in history, the military doesn’t ensure that its people are squared away mentally before discharge.

    • These mass shooters are all mentally disturbed in one way or the other. Normal people don’t do this.

      Not all people admit to themselves that they have a problem and seek help. The only case I’ve read about in detail is Columbine.

      They were both suicidal and it was a folie á deux situation. Neither thought they might have treatable condition. One of them was a psychopath, it appears.

      Their motives aren’t clear even after a lot of reading. Why not just commit suicide without the shooting?

  10. Another deep state false flag shooting. Notice the common thread: an incongruous victim/perpetrator profile (marine shooting up country music fans) combined with the victims being nobodies.

      Is there a such a thing as “SWPL rage”? What triggers SWPL rage? Wilted arugula at the local Whole Foods? Microaggressions by deplorable badwhites? Lack of use of gender congruent pronouns for genderqueers? Election victories by Republican candidates (particularly on the Presidential level)?

  14. Why so many American soldiers suffer from PTSD? In Israel everybody needs to go to the army and the only person I knew with an issue was a prisoner of war in Syria in 1973, which lets face it, was a pretty horrible experience including torture and what not.
    From what I see in movies and TV it seems like the American army is very strict comparing to the Israeli, maybe this is the problem or maybe since in Israel most soldiers spend almost every second weekend with the family back home, it helps keeping them sane.

    Another thing that is bothering, the guy had a licensed gun but known to have PTSD and apparently an history of problems, so the authorities knew he is not right, why they didn’t cancel his license? What’s the point of a license if anybody can get it regardless of their mental stability?

    Hashed

    November 8, 2018 at 4:14 PM

      November 8, 2018 at 6:48 PM

      • Most vets simply got on with their lives after V-E and V-J days. As you mentioned, there was far more social cohesion in the America of 1945 than today and the average guy had a good shot at finding a decent, respectable woman to marry and have raise a family. What does the average vet have to come home to?

    There is no obviously creepy person in the audience and I couldn’t pick out Soldini.

    The presenter is surprisingly interesting, especially at the beginning when he talks about his mother.

    Why are there women in the audience? The presentation is obviously aimed at men.

    Why does anyone, or at least any man, want to get married after having been divorced once, let alone three times? I don’t get that. I haven’t been divorced yet, so maybe if I get divorced I would marry someone else anyway, but you would think after the third time people would start catching on.

      • whether or not he’s “prole” wasn’t the point. PROLE RAGE was the point. The roommate seemed normal enough. And he said that the shooter had been a very nice, quiet roommate and great guy. Other people who knew him expected him to be a victim not the perpetrator, They were all surprised and trying to figure it out. If it had been a simple case of rage people would have commented on how angry and difficult he was. Something happened to this guy. He changed. He went from clean cut, spit and polish to tattooed weirdo. Did you see his facial hair in that photo? That’s not normal. Normal people don’t grow a goatee with beard halfway down their throat. I’m wondering if he got hooked on drugs or developed mental problems.

        PS: I’m not buying “prole rage” as a category. Proles aren’t especially prone to shooting sprees unless there’s another factor ie beta male rage, wife left them, disgruntled employee, mental illness, etc.
