Bill de Blasio should read my blog

NY Times says

Leaders in New York and New Jersey said they were caught off guard by the ferocity of the storm after early forecasts predicted a light dusting.

The day before the storm I wrote:

The NAM* predicts 6 inches of snow for New York City and more than a foot for Pennsylvania and upstate New York.

Final result: National Weather Service reports exactly 6 inches of snow fell in Central Park.

Why can’t this moron mayor just read my blog for information?

*The NAM is the National Mesoscale model, which along with the GFS (Global Forecasting System), is one of the two major computer weather forecasting models run by the National Weather Service.

There are other models out there, some think the European Model is better, but information from the GFS and the NAM runs are easily available to the public for free, plus there’s the fact that the NAM was specifically designed for short-term forecasting in the United States. The NAM used to be considered kind of a joke, but the National Weather Service has improved it a lot, and with its big success with yesterday’s storm, I say to look to the NAM first for winter weather forecasting.

    • Bill de Blasio would never read your blog. BDB would have you sent to the Gulag if he had the power to do so.

  2. Lion, you recently posted about the increase in homeless people in NYC. Have you noticed that there’s a lot more dogs now too? There seems to have been a large increase in dog ownership in NYC over the past 10 years. Maybe you can post about this. Also you smell marijuana everywhere now, I guess because they stopped cracking down on it recently.

    • Has there been an increase in feral dogs? Or just dog ownership?

      November 16, 2018 at 11:18 PM

      • Dog ownership. Not strays. Lots more people walking dogs around NYC these days. It used to be mostly older ladies with toy dogs, either carrying them around or walking them, and some people with larger dogs. Nowadays there are a lot more dogs, and lots of younger people with dogs. Also a lot of the dogs wear some kind of sweater or vest type thing, which used to be a novelty.

      • I understand that there are feral dogs in Moscow. People feed them. Some dogs even know how the ride the subway, There’s a subset of the population that’s very sentimental about them. I read about it several years ago, I have no direct info.

The homeless problem seems to be getting worse all over. San Francisco is getting so bad that tourism is suffering,

  4. Why should he? After all, most of the commenters here do not like him and his minions. Furthermore, your posts are anything but pro-Blasio.

    Ok, what, who's this again?

  5. How do you know which model they are using on the National Weather Service site?

    November 16, 2018 at 6:35 PM

    • I’m pretty sure they tell you on their website.

  6. What is the website for NAM?

Also, have you heard about the ruling that free speech doesn’t include harassment? What do you think of it?

    November 16, 2018 at 7:09 PM

    • That’s been the law in California for at least 20 years, at least in the employment context.

      November 16, 2018 at 10:28 PM

    • “have you heard about the ruling that free speech doesn’t include harassment? “

I’m fine with it as long as they apply it equally. When are they going to charge obama, maxine waters and the msm for encouraging people to “get in their face”?

  9. Bill DeBlasio was unavailable for comment. His staff said he was sleeping. Its unclear if he was sleeping during the storm or when the question was asked. Voters want him to spend much more time with his family after the next election.
