Hanukkah in Santa Monica

with 36 comments

Some guy on YouTube does a rendition of the song.

This song demonstrates how songwriters find Hanukkah to be such a dismal holiday, that they can only make comedy songs about it.

  1. Tom Lehrer wrote funny songs on a lot of topics. There’s also “The Vatican Rag.”

    • I’ll see your Vatican Rag and raise you National Brotherhood Week.

And of course, “Silent E” from The Electric Company.

He’s a bit more than just “some guy on YouTube”!

    • Some guy on YouTube with a long Wikipedia bio?

      Lion of the Blogosphere

December 6, 2018 at EST am

      • According to his Wikipedia bio, he is a “multi-platinum-selling, five-time Grammy-nominated recording artist,” has had his own Broadway shows, and a documentary on PBS, currently hosts a radio show on NPR, and has put out a bunch of albums. Weird that someone of whom all that is true only has 40 subscribers on YouTube and that most of his videos have less than 1000 views.

Oh, and Judge Judy performed his gay wedding ceremony!

  3. “Jews aren’t punching Christmas so much as punching themselves.

Why can’t you just accept that Jews suffer psychologically from Christmas?”

Jews have no good EXTERNAL reason to suffer Xmas or find Hanukkah dismal; as it is simply a way to give children presents.

The REAL problem with Jews is self-hatred. The highest compliment to be paid a a Jew is to tell him/her, “You don’t look Jewish.”

Jews are hurt they don’t physically look like Anglos. But they block out that not every white person is a classical statue and there are absolutely good looking Jews who DO CLEARLY look Jewish.

From this neurosis, they rejected the welcome of America and being accepted as white people. They refused to vote Republican even when successful, refused to support their host society, and instead have a compulsion to agitate for open borders and other “progressive” revolution.

    • ‘The highest compliment to be paid a a Jew is to tell him/her, “You don’t look Jewish.””

Only because gentiles look down upon Jews who live in a society based on gentile standards. Only in Israel can Jews be proud of looking Jewish, and the anti-Semites want to take that away from them by allowing the Palestinian Muslims to take over the country.

Don’t tell a black person that they don’t sound black, you’ll get accused of being racist.

      • “Don’t tell a black person that they don’t sound black, you’ll get accused of being racist.”

If you’re a white person, that right there is enough for a lot of black people to accuse you of being racist. You don’t have to do anything.

    • I look very Jewish and I have no problem with that. The highest compliment from a Gentile is really ‘You don’t look Jewish’ in the sense of ‘You don’t act Jewish’. I get that alot.

      • It’s also your line of work. Lenny Bruce had bits about which occupations are for Jews and which aren’t. Adam Corolla, an Italian comedian with a Jew-fro who used to work in construction has bits about being mistaken for a Jew in Hollywood writer’s meetings, but never being mistaken for a Jew on a job site.

      • I have a friend with a surname which is often Jewish, but in his case not. He had been gotten to know his clients, a Jewish couple, pretty well, and they included him in some of their social functions. At some point in one of their conversations, they said something which clearly implied that he was Jewish. When he came clean on the matter, they were initially a bit taken aback — and probably embarrassed — but told him he’d make a great candidate for conversion if he ever felt the urge (I believe this was all said humorously). My friend took no offense and found the whole episode more amusing than anything else.

I’ve been taken for being Jewish on a few occasions — and probably more that I never knew about — even though I’m a nice Episcopalian boy, and from the South no less.

I did once have an employee — can you still use the word “employee” — who told me I was the first non-Jewish boss she’d ever had. She was half-German and half-Greek. I wasn’t quite sure where this conversation was going.

      • Jews don’t look Italian. Rather, some Italians look like they could be Jewish. In 1993 a representatve of Chabad on the Berkeley campus just walked right up to me and addressed me as a felliw jew. When I thanked him for mistaking me as Jewish, he said, “really? You take that as a compliment?”

December 6, 2018 at EST pm

      • Yeah and the two ashkenazies (the guy with piercing and Hassidic Jews, there were no other ashkenazies) were from an American origin so they kind of understood the context. The interesting was all the others who are not white or versed in American race definition and didn’t quiet understand what he wants from them. In Israel it is not about Jewish or Muslim, this one is obvious, it is about Ashkenai and non Ashkenazi which used to be considered “black” but as time pass it is less important these days. The Tunisian girl kind of explains it well.

  4. OT, SWPL in Manhattan are extremely nice. Love them as clients. Going legit in January to be able to take their checks, CC and give them receipts. Poor people – they are charged a fortune but the work is just terrible. Construction is so lousy, like you imagine you are in Africa not in the US. It’s tragic. People are such animals, sometimes.

      • Paying taxes is a crime. No taxation without representation. These poor high trusting people are being ripped of and its also a crime. They need me, but it’s a symbiotic relationship. I never ask Americans for cash, it has to be on their own initiative. Some get it, but most don’t. My people pay cash, mostly.

      • Don’t make me laugh now! My Tajik, his wife and his 3 kids have the latest iPhones. He just bought a second car brand new Toyota Selena for $40,000, got food stamps, medicaid and is in line for section 8. Go pay taxes, mate. It’s a smart thing to do. Makes imminent sense. I mean, is there anything wrong with this picture repeated millions of times? No, not at all. People should pay more taxes so that these guys should get more money and more useless people should be storming the borders. Yep, this makes tons of sense to you, but I won’t contribute a penny if I can help it l, and I like my Tajik.

Obviously when going legit I’ll be paying some taxes, but what’s unavoidable doesn’t bother me. I just don’t think that anyone netting less than $250,000 should be paying anything. He needs to take care of his family first. Look, we don’t control the cost of living, why should we be anyone’s slaves? You wanna be a slave? Well, that’s your decision, mate, but don’t force it on others. Really….

  5. Jews do not all look a certain way. There are blond Jews, red-haired Jews, blue-eyed Jews, etc. As for myself, no one would think I look anything but Jewish, but I do not conform to the political stereotype as laid out by fakeemail above.

  6. I wonder why we think a certain look is best. For women: blue-eyed, blonde hair, cute nose, clear skin (pale but not too pale), pink cheeks, rosebud mouth, thin but shapely. In other words, stereotypically WASP. Do we think it is prettiest becuase the highest members of society (WASPS) look that way? Or is there something innately attractive about that look that would be appealing even if only poor people looked that way?

    • I can see their point and the same point of other non-Christians. (Mind you, a large number of people descended from Christians are now atheists. But it’s not like there was a different religion in their past. These atheists likely don’t do anything for Christmas unless they have children.

The extreme popularity of Christmas even altered the Orthodox Church of America (a spin-off the old Russian mission in Alaska). The orthodox never accepted the Pope’s new calendar and thus Christmas is early January in places like Russia (the civil calendar was changed by the Commies and remains that way).

But OCA decided that Xmas was such a huge deal they celebrate on December 25. But changing Easter was not in the cards (plus it’s not a big deal in North America).

It’s one week after Passover, and that seems to be the date of Passover that the Jews use. Religious Jews never accepted the new calendar either, I guess.

  9. “This song demonstrates how songwriters find Hanukkah to be such a dismal holiday, that they can only make comedy songs about it.”

There’s a lot more money in writing Christmas songs than in writing Chanukah songs and always has been. Otherwise, we could have had Irving Berlin dreaming of a white Chanukah. Probably half the time you’re being annoyed by Christmas music, you’re listening to something written by a Jew.
