It’s more expensive to keep the government shut down than to keep it open

So reports the NY Times. And it’s true.

This could be an argument that Democrats should just give Trump $5 billion for the wall, because it’s cheaper to spend $5 billion on a wall than it is to keep the government shut down. But Democrats would rather spite Trump than do something that benefits the country.

Of course, for liberals who believe that Trump is the most horrible thing to ever happen to the United States, they probably believe it’s worth losing tens of billions of dollars in order to give Trump a bloody nose which they think will ensure that he loses the next election.

  1. Trump may not be gaining liberal support, but if he gives in, he will lose his conservative support. As long as he doesn’t give in, he will maintain his poll numbers where they are. Which, in the low 40’s, is where they’ve always been. And puts him in a pretty good position to be re-elected.

Without conservative/Republican support, he is absolutely sunk.

    so I’m not worried.

    • He will fold. I am convinced they have some serious dirt on him and gave him “the talk.” There is no way he went from the campaign rhetoric and the inauguration speech to where he is now spontaneously. He is fully under control. I think the dirt is to do with 90s money laundering for Russian oligarchs. The “Russians Hacked The Election” insanity is a thoughtfully constructed rhyme for morons, despite the lack of real relevance. If they have to spring it publicly all Joe Blow will hear is “Russia” and this time it will be true.

      • “Dirt?” If there was serious dirt on Trump (other than what’s already out there in the public domain) They would have already had Trump purring like a kitten. I’ve heard this “dirt” theory plenty over the past two years and have seen zero evidence of it. Trump sure isn’t acting like a guy being blackmailed.

I’m not sure what universe you live in, but that’s pretty much what has happened since the inauguration speech.

  2. It doesn’t matter. Either Trump gets the or he is finished, lame duck, one term. He won’t even get to replace RBG.

  3. I’m surprised this went as far as it did and lasted as long as it did. I thought conservatives never tired of the ‘tax cuts for the rich business blah blah blah’ narrative. How Republicans could dupe their base this much is impressive. All the base really got was the Koch brother’s agenda and wall talk. In other words, open borders.

  4. It costs federal workers more because their living expenses have to be paid out of savings.

  5. It looks like the heat is more on democrats than republican contrary to MSM message. If there are 600k democrats out of the 800k, it will be such a juge pression than people, like Cher, will say « let him have its fucking Wall ».

The problem of the democrat is that the strong argument against the Wall, having a multi-cultural and diverse society, is not popular and hidden. The argument about the cost is getting weaker and weaker. For Republican, the money people are against the Wall, but don’t dare speaking either. And the people are being good at duplicity : they say they don’t want crime. They mean they don’t want ethnic people. Most whites agree.

  7. “Chuck and Nancy” should give Trump the wall, in a bill that requires tax increases to pay for it. I wonder how the GOP would vote on a bill like that?
