Democrats won’t admit that all border fencing is racist

http://thefederalist.com/2019/01/08/why-is-a-border-wall-immoral/

This is a great article in The Federalist, I pretty much agree with everything the author says.

We already have around 700 miles of barriers. Swalwell’s state of California shares a 140-mile border with Mexico, about 105 miles of which is walled or fenced, including a giant fence that juts into the Pacific Ocean. Are those walls immoral and racist, also? If so, why don’t Democrats support tearing down these nefarious structures?

The answer to these questions is that 15 years ago, Democrats didn’t realize that border fencing was racist. Now they are more woke. How does that work? As I’ve previously pointed out, Donald Trump is the rare individual who seems to be immune to having his beliefs change over time based on the zeitgeist. Most people change what they believe subconsciously, without even realizing that it happened. For most people, beliefs are based on emotions and tribal association, and not on independent logical thinking that has to be consistent over time.

But Democrats know that demanding all border barriers of any kind be torn down would be unpopular and would lose votes, so their goal is to chip away at border security and slowly but surely move in the direction of open borders with no barriers (physical or legal) at all to immigration.

Thus we see that Democrats oppose the wall not because it’s not the most cost-effective way to prevent illegal immigration, but rather they are opposed to it because secretly they believe that it works, even though they publicly argue the opposite. A wall that works is racist.

  1. I’m not sure, but could that be a prole thing? I’ve never changed these things and my guess you haven’t as well. From what I’ve noticed, most people outside the prole class are more susceptible to “trends” and will go along with the trends to appear “cool”.

  2. People can still thing that it is linked to wealth differences. If you had Russian and Ukranian and East european on the border, probably the bottom 90% would strongly favour a Wall : white, latinos and black. So there is a way to de-racialize the Wall and make it a “social” thing. The Wall is more nationalist than ethno-racist.

  3. What’s racist is to have one immigration system for Mexicanos and another stricter one for everyone else.

I used to think that Democrats actually cared about low income Americans, and saw mass immigration of low-skill labor as a threat to them. Just what has changed? They seem to care more about illegal immigrants than Americans.

    • “Just what has changed?”

Like I said, they didn’t realize that it was RACIST to care about Americans over people in other countries. But now they are woke.

    • Once upon a time, illegals weren’t seen as natural Dem voters, mainly because they were Catholic. But as Ann Coulter has repeatedly pointed out, illegals are VERY fond of big government and all the perks therein. Self-reliance? Not so much.

      • The immigrant vote has always favored the Democratic Party, going back to the days of Andrew Jackson. No, what changed is that membership in working-class labor unions has collapsed, and with that group’s demise in the Democratic coalition there’s no one with enough interest and muscle to oppose the SWPL activists and neoliberal bean-counters.

  4. If you own a home with a backyard, you probably have a fence around your backyard. If your neighbour erected a 30ft high concrete wall around their backyard, you would be angry and complain to the city. Building a 30ft wall around your back yard is illegal in most cities I know about.

Having a fence on the Mexican border clearly marks where the border is and discourages people from trying to cross it. A 30ft concrete wall is what you expect to find at a prison. Building one along the Mexican border says Mexicans are criminals that we must keep locked out of our country.

    • “A 30ft concrete wall”

“Trump already agreed to a steel slat fence instead of a concrete wall. Trump is willing to compromise, but not the Democrats in Congress.

    • So MikeCA, you are in favor of a physical barrier as long as it can easily be crossed?
