The REAL reason there are so few blacks at Stuyvesant High School

with 74 comments

And not, it’s NOT just an HBD thing. Although of course, the fact that blacks are genetically less intelligent than whites (on average, on average, of course there are unusually smart blacks like Obama, and Staten Island is full of dumb prole whites) and Asians is a big factor.

The real story is that the city’s elite private schools give out scholarships to poor minority students, and private organizations exist to find the best and brightest minorities and channel them into these opportunities.

According to a NY Post article, “at least 1,500 talented minority and immigrant kids from the city’s poorest neighborhoods currently enrolled in ritzy private and boarding schools — most for free.”

Any black kid who is smart enough to get into Stuyvesant can get a free ride at a much better private school. It would be pretty stupid if they gave that up to attend Stuyvesant.

The media is now full of articles, like this crap fake-news article at The Atlantic about the discrimination that minorities face. The discrimination is totally false. Being a poor but smart minority is so much better than being a poor but smart white.

  1. If you are Black/Latino and smart enough to get into Stuyvesant then you are smart enough to get a scholarship in a private prep school in NYC.

And private prep schools are almost always more prestigious than Stuyvesant.

    • I don’t know about that. I think Stuyvesant can hold its own against any prep school in NY/NJ/CT.

      • Stuy might be competitive when it comes to MIT admittance and an engineering career. But going to school with a bunch of first- and second-generation Asian grinds is not going to help develop the soft skills and connections that will help these kids in the careers they will actually pursue.

      • Upon looking up the meaning in Wikipedia, I see that it’s a very confusing term.

I mean that Asians at Stuyvesant were either born in a foreign country, or born in the U.S. but their parents were born in a foreign country.

Once we reach down to the second generation that was BORN here, they are probably living in suburbs just like whites and are no longer in New York City, unless they are extremely rich and can afford private school.

      • Connections made at exclusive prep schools are valuable for pursuing a career in the likes of law, finance, and the corporate world, where finesse and politics are more important than skills.

On the other hand, Bronx Science/Stuyvesant grads are well represented in Ivy League universities and professional schools, so they can make those connections too–just a bit later. As for the Asian types, many of them eschew corporate ladder climbing for careers on the technical side. Being a high-level engineer, doctor, or software designer still beats the hell out of assembling shu mai and baked barbecued pork buns every Sunday at the family restaurant.

  2. Similarly the reason you see so few black run small businesses and self employed black people generally in urban black ghettos is because the kinds of lower middle class blacks who could have very competently filled these roles were all plucked up by affirmative action programs to become under performing executives. Their mirror opposite is the smart Chinese kid who doesn’t get into university but spends his life running a corner store like his mom and dad before him.

    Armando

March 20, 2019 at EDT pm

    • Smart Chinese kids don’t run the corner Mom & Pop store. His parents do -they realize he’s going off to college.

Blacks don’t run family businesses because their family structure is shot. In order to run a family biz, it takes a patriarch.

      gothamette

March 20, 2019 at EDT pm

    • I’ve seen this discussed before, maybe here.

      Factors involved:

      1. As Armando said, affirmative action means there are fewer benefits to self-employment; you can be promoted beyond your competence in the corporate world or in government. By contrast, Asians are mildly discriminated against relative to IQ, so there is upside for them. Especially true for recent arrivals with poor English skills who have no chance at a corporate job (and might even have dodgy immigration status).

      2. Asians are able to tap the extended family, which again has been mildly discriminated against and has low expectations so is more open to a dead-end job at their uncle’s small business. Also, due to regression to the mean, a 110 IQ black probably has far fewer IQ 100-105 family members than an Asian does. Maybe lack of a patriarch is a factor, but I don’t know that it’s all that important compared to these others.

      3. Blacks have a tendency to ask for special favors and freebies from black-owned businesses (“help a brother out”), and store owners feel community pressure to be lenient to them. Meanwhile Asians won’t cut them any slack. So while it might bring more people to your store to be a black business in a black neighborhood, it might actually hurt your bottom-line.

      Wency

March 21, 2019 at EDT pm

      • Regarding 3. , blacks should make their business in a white neighbourhood, especially in gentrified places the whites always want to feel like they are friends with the “authentic” inhabitants of the place, it basically works similiar to affirmative action in corporations

        Hashed

March 21, 2019 at EDT pm

      • it’s really hard to run a small business, and it takes brains! there are all sorts of issues including handling ;money, government inspections, keeping stock, employing people, etc etc etc. Plus it’s a lot of stress, and the threat of bankruptcy is always there. Why wouldn’t you take a cushy government job, with a guaranteed pension and no chance of being fired? Blacks are making a sensible decision. Immigrants who choose the small business route have family to tutor them, and poor language skills, so few alternate opportunities. Their kids don’t do it. Sensibly.

        Amused Observer

March 21, 2019 at EDT pm

      • @Hashed:

Well, at least when it comes to restaurants, the minority-owned ethnic restaurant is so commonplace that I don’t think you really get bonus points for being black, even if whites almost never eat at ADOS-owned restaurants (I say ADOS because whites are more likely to eat at an Ethiopian restaurant than an ADOS restaurant).

But moving your business out of the ghetto is still a good idea if your food and customer service are good enough to keep up. And if the owner actually works at the restaurant, it’s not too hard to beat most low-priced restaurants on customer service.

  3. There aren’t many blacks in our private schools so Lion’s claim that “smart” black kids are in our elite private schools is unfounded.

I did some research and Asians outnumber blacks in these private schools by about 3:1. Given the fact that NYC has a large black population, they are severely underrepresented in our elite schools in both the public and private sector.

Examples of private schools are Regis, Trinity and Horace Mann.

      • Still a small percentage and these private schools aren’t as selective as Stuyvesant, given the difficulty of its SHSAT exam. Many privileged White gentiles wouldn’t never get in if they take it, let alone blacks.

But prestige in Meriprolestan isn’t define by difficulty, yet blacks are clearly left out in both the prestigious and meritocratic realm, solely because of HBD.

Hunter, Stuyvesant, Bronx Science lead the pack (Stuyvesant and Bronx have HUGE student bodies, though)

Dalton, Regis, Trinity, Fieldston, Horace Man, Riverdale Country Day all do very well. They all have relatively small student bodies.

And (drum roll………..) a big surprise, Staten Island Technical High school does very well. Definitely up there with the private schools and able to hold it’s own with the bit 3 public schools.

But Russian Jewish immigrants have been moving in, and they are often prole or not rich because of their immigrant status rather than lack of IQ, and even though my mother doesn’t like them (because of their pushy aggressive behavior), I have no doubt that the lion’s share of the smartest kids on Staten Island have Russian immigrant Jewish parents.

While I can’t speak about the Irish (I really don’t know so many of them well, despite being one of them) I can tell you that any kind of hipsterism, hedonistic or not, isn’t so common among IAs. They have other problems, of course, but not this one. They tend to be just as impressed by money as people of other ethnicities, but significantly less interested in status. And IA culture does not look favorably on the blunt egotism that usually accompanies hipsterism.

The top performing kids on SI- that I’ve seen anyway- tend to be sri lankan, chinese or russian. Every once in a while you get a really bright irish/ italian kid from the long time dwellers but they usually have limited ambition, like CSI then fire academy, or straight to nursing school.

This observation I believe to be correct, and it syncs with Charles Murray’s assertions that we have been witnessing sex selection (assortative mating) playing out in real time. I mentioned in another comment here the relatively poor performance of Jewish high schools (Ramaz and Yeshiva of Flatbush, yeshivas on Long Island) in the National Merit (PSAT) exam. In my day, those schools sent many students to the Ivies. What has changed is the smarter fraction from those communities have been siphoned off to the elite schools and elite careers, where they meet and marry elites, (for about 4 generations now), never to return to the community. The remaining population aren’t morons, but they lack that extra oomph on the right side of the curve. As Murray points out, this has been happening in many communities across the land. Maybe this is good for the proles. Having capable people in their midst doesn’t seem to have helped them much. Maybe what this country needs is a display of raw prole power.

  5. Good analysis; it just seems like you’re kicking the causal can down one more level, though, and the root cause is still ‘an HBD thing’. The reason smart kids from minority groups where this isn’t usually the case have such great opportunities is that there aren’t many of them. If there were more than the elite private schools needed, they wouldn’t have to fight over the existing ones and those could slide on down into options like Stuyvesant.

  8. Maybe partly it comes down to parenting values. Maybe the parents of white children are more likely to want to push their children to achieve academically.

It’s funny that liberals care so much about the academic betterment of blacks, yet seem to care so little about challenging the message given out by so much black popular culture and the obvious harm this has the potential to cause the black community. I guess liberals care more about being called racist than they do about actually making the lives of blacks better. They’ll blame other whites for their failure, but nothing more.

The true goal is to grab social status, power, and wealth by presenting themselves as morally and intellectually superior to their political enemies. Often they are completely oblivious to their true motivations.

In fact, I would go so far to say that this sort of moral crusading is THE problem of our age. Just about every social problem could be solved without a lot of trouble if elites weren’t locked into a status competition to see who can be Holier than Thou.

      • First, blacks derive enormous benefit from programs supported by the left, such as affirmative action. The entire black middle class is a creation of the phenomenon of intentionally placing blacks into comfortably-paying, make-work positions in bloated governmental, educational, and corporate bureaucracies, positions they would never otherwise occupy. Second, I see no evidence that liberals don’t believe the worldview they profess. Why would they challenge the message given out by black popular culture? They think that message is just a product of white racism. They really do think all of blacks’ problems are caused by white racism, so the only way to solve blacks’ problems is to fight white racism. It’s perfectly logical, if you accept their precepts.

The articles I have seen talked about how many blacks were offered spots at Stuyvesant not about how many actually attended. So you have to explain why smart blacks don’t even bother applying. I guess it does mean taking a special exam but smart people often like taking tests even if they have no attention of following through if offered a spot. Is it possible to take the test and get a score without going to the trouble of actually filling out an application.

I do not usually recommend links or channels, but the quality of the research of this professor is exceptional, so I will make an exception this time.

His name is Edward Dutton, strong HBD proponent and he deals with topics such as:

    – Proving that we are becoming less intelligent due to dysgenic fertility
    – Proving that sexual selection extends to nationality, with women being sexually attracted to males from higher status nations
    – Proving that the nature of Islamic societies – and the religion itself – retards IQ in Muslim countries
    – Proving that Western Europe became deeply religious by the Reformation because it had been executing all its criminals since the early Middle Ages.
    – Proving that modern-day atheism is caused by mutant genes, the prevalence of which has been increasing in the population since the Industrial Revolution relaxed Natural Selection.

Also I’m kind of interested in the Asian break down for the elite public schools – How many are Chinese, Korean, Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi… I think there are a lot more poor Chinese and Bangladeshis that reside within the 5 boroughs of New York City than there are Indians and Koreans..

    • I know very little detail about Italian politics, but the mayor of Cremona (where the terrorist attack took place) represents a left-of-centre political party. That may be a factor. Did the terrorist really care about African migrants, or does he just hate white Italians? Obviously this kind of thing is going to become an increasingly common facet of European civilisation as we become ever more vibrant and diverse, thanks to our wise political leaders of the EU.

    • 1 – he forced the teachers to tie the kids: he had a fuel tank and a lighter threatening to light it up and throw it on the kids if the teachers did not comply

2 – When the senegalese presented the application to become a driver he gave his criminal record, but apparently the records were not checked again, even when they were updated with the convictions for sexual molestation. When he was found drunk and his driving license was taken, he put himself in sick leave for the duration of the suspension. Apparently none of the people in the company that were supposed to take disciplinary action were notified of these facts as the notifications were either overlooked or not passed on to the people in charge (a classic event in an office full of lazy public employees).

The senegalese was actually born in France and he obtained the citizenship after marrying an Italian women (from which he separated) and being resident in in Italy for 10 years.

  14. The SHSAT exam offers bilingual math glossaries in Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), French, Haitian-Creole, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Urdu.

Also if you are a ELL (English Language Learner) you get double the amount of time everyone else get’s finish the SHSAT.

If you want to help Blacks how about getting rid of these special preferences for foreigners in schools that should exist for American students.

    • Never understood the concept of parochial competition, given the fact that Americans aren’t competitive among themselves. In order to make Meriprolestan into a global mercantilestan, it should welcome foreigners to invest and out-compete the natives.

I would rather see French and Spanish firms plant their seeds in the US than your typical staid Anglo firm with its legions of 1-dimensional White Americans, along with 3rd world primitives working for the company, because it’s the right thing to do.

      Ok, what, who's this again?

  16. It would be interesting to compare the black Stuyvesant output compared to the white/Asian white. It’s probable that they all get admission in HPY indépendant of low Gpa. In that case, the choice between private school and Stuyvesant for a black is do I prefer an intelligent prole racist boring hard-working asian to the company of wasp people. The outcome being as good in both cases for them.

At Stuyvesant, they are free from the stain of’positive discrimination wich is hard on deserving people. So after reflection, I change my mind and think they better off at Stuyvesant if they qualify.

    • In a NY Times article today, they mention a black female Stuyvesant student who was admitted to ALL EIGHT Ivies. Obviously the power of affirmative action. Any black smart enough to pass the test to get into Stuyvesant is highly desired by HPY, but Asians who can pass the test are a dime a dozen.

      • Floyd Mayweather groused about Jeremy Lin getting so much attention. Didn’t he have a point? Black athletes are a dime a dozen.

  17. Just read it :

    1) Crazy how white those black are. And they are not faking anything. It’s just phenotype and IQ correlation. The picture of the black at Caltech is even more striking than the Stuyvesant. They look albinos !

    2) How the article hide the fact that those Latinos and Black have it much better than asian and Whites

    3) The successful black are not African American but either African (like Joy Reid) or mixed race or both (like Obama)

    • They are very stupid for an elite high school. I mean, I was the only Jew in my boxing club back in the USSR ,but I knew that the problem was with the Jews, not with the club.

  19. Blacks went from ‘they call me mr tibbs’ to ‘they call me mr boombastic’ in just twenty five years. It will be twenty five years since Shaggy made the Hit Parade with that one in ’95 next year. God knows what patronimic they will be proudly asserting by then.

Really though, I’ve got a bad case of negro fatigue. I’m not suggeting we go back to Jews (God forbid) and the Chinese were always boring, but how about some value transference or cost disease/something prolish?

  20. Quillette posted an article called “In Defense of New York City’s Elite Public High Schools”

    https://quillette.com/2019/03/22/in-defense-of-new-york-citys-elite-public-high-schools/

However the author either doesn’t know about HBD or won’t speak of it.

In which case the article probably isn’t useful.
