The Atlantis theory

I’ve previously written about the theory that *if* UFOs are technologically advanced spacecraft (and of course, that’s a big if), then they are probably from an advanced terrestrial civilization and not extraterrestrials.

The reasoning behind this is that space is too vast for practical interstellar travel based on our understanding of the laws of the universe. But on the other hand, if intelligent and technologically advanced life evolved on Earth once, then it’s surely not out of bounds that it could have evolved here twice, and humans aren’t the first species from Earth to evolve intelligence. Or alternatively, the Atlanteans are just humans who advanced technologically a few millennia before we did.

But what would be their motivation for hiding and surrendering the planet to inferior beings such as ourselves? Well, I have a new theory to explain this. We already have extreme environmentalists who believe that humans are the worst thing to ever happen to the planet, and the world would be better off if humans died out. What if this sort of self-defeatist extreme liberal mode of thinking is what always happens when races become too advanced? What if the Atlanteans came to believe that Earth would be better off without them, and they decided to stop reproducing and to move to the bottom of the ocean or someplace like that where they could remove their toxicity from the planet and allow the planet to heal.

And the reason why Atlanteans have not revealed themselves to mankind, or interfered much in our development, is because they believe in the Prime Directive. Possibly, there are no longer any biological Atlanteans left, just their robots live on, following their programming to not interfere not matter what we humans do.

Science fiction? Maybe, but more realistic science fiction than extraterrestrial visits.

  1. Are you going to incorporate Younger Dryas cataclysms into your theory? Meltwater pulse 1b perfectly matches the date that Plato gave for the founders of other civilizations leaving Atlantis.

    • That whole rabbit hole is enormously entertaining and plausible. The stuff about Petra (indiana jones set) and the great pyramids actually being older than 10,000 years and not built by the peoples currently claimed.

  2. I can perhaps get behind this line of thinking, which is really just an observation that extraterrestrial visitors are extraordinarily unlikely.

Its logical extension is that if there do happen to be extraterrestrials, they are likely of terrestrial origin. An Earth-evolved civilization could be living elsewhere in our solar system, MAYBE even on one of our closer stars, and still be continuing to monitor us.

Next thought: if we had a true extraterrestrial visit, most likely it would be some sort of mega-bomb designed to take us out before we took them out. They’re looking all over with super-powered telescopes and have some means of noting civilization-like activity on distant stars and sending bombs there, but they don’t have the tech to colonize other stars.

Put all of this together: what if the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs was actually sent here by ETs to kill off an early dinosaur-evolved terrestrial civilization? These smart dinos located the asteroid with their telescopes and even figured out it was actually a weapon but didn’t have a way to stop it, so they fled and decided to maintain a lower profile afterwards to prevent follow-up attacks.

    • Final corollary: if the Atlantean UFOs do decide to attack us, it will be an act of mercy designed to knock our civilization down to a level that’s less likely to draw attention from the hunter-killer ETs.

I feel like there’s a sci-fi story here where the Atlanteans initially attack us for this reason and are perceived as the villains but then it turns out they’re trying to help us, and a plucky human hero convinces them instead to work with us against the hunter-killer aliens.

Or has this story already been told? One of those various Stargate series or something.

  3. Maybe UFOs aren’t alien ships at all. Perhaps UFOs are alien beings themselves.
UFOs are like the Organians in the original Star Trek series…beings so highly evolved that they have shed their corporeal form and are beings of pure energy. UFOs don’t communicate with humanity because talking to us would be like humans talking to microbes.

  4. …or, and this is going to sound crazy, but maybe there is no ancient high tech civilization because there is no evidence for it.

    • I agree. There is no sign at all of an ancient but technically advanced civilization. People have scoured a large part of the earth (looking for various things) but found nothing that would fit the description.

  5. It’s a fun idea, but these are just some unknown type of drone the US military has been using in one form or another for decades.

I’m going to guess it is a DARPA born advancement in either materials or AI, maybe both. Its been used since first gulf war and there is likely a next generation in use now, so they will reveal this one soon since its functionally obsolete.

It will be similar to the unveiling of the SR 71 20 years or so ago.

  6. I agree that interstellar travel is impossible for life, but it might be possible for an AI machine probe. Or they could be coming from somewhere else in our solar system, like Europa.

  7. “But what would be their motivation for hiding and surrendering the planet to inferior beings such as ourselves?”

Ultra HD VR porn. The Atlanteans invented it and then jacked themselves in for an eternity of orgies.

  8. It’s stupid of us to be sending out signals to extra-terrestrials. It’s like we’re saying, “Come here and kill/rape/plunder us.”

    • Agreed. I’ve thought for a long time that it should be illegal to try to contact aliens. Not that I think there are any aliens to contact… but why risk it? Carl Sagan was definitely very high IQ. But he was also doubly foolish for both wasting his time and putting earth at risk.

    • what’s interesting is that for hundreds of thousands of years human beings were basically a bunch of animals slopping around in the primeval mud.

people who think that progress and intellect are drivers of the human race are pretty silly. I used to be one of them.

May 28, 2019 at EDT pm

    • I agree that there is no archaeological evidence of the Atlanteans in the places that we looked. This can mean one of three things:

      1. The Atlantean civilization was so long ago, tens of millions of years maybe, that all evidence is gone.
      2. They used their technology to clean up all evidence of their existence.
      3. There aren’t any Atlanteans. (But this is so boring.)

      • Sometimes explanations are boring.

May 28, 2019 at EDT pm

      • Even tens of millions ago, you’d expect to find *some* signs. Metal rods, bits of plastic, things like that would easily last (if not something more advanced). We’ve found complete dinosaur skeletons from hundreds of million years ago, for comparison.

But who knows, maybe they were all on one small island that got washed into the depths of the sea. (but why would they only stay on that one island?)

        ack-acking

May 28, 2019 at EDT pm

    • Tens of millions of years doesn’t jibe with 9,000 years before the time of Solon. Also the place to look is under the surface of the ocean. Pavlopetri is only 10 feet below sea level. Atlantis would be more like 250 feet below sea level.

  13. According to Edgar cayce their land was destroyed and they migrated to different parts of the world and set up shop around the globe. But definitely he describes them as having crafts that can fly , makes sense , and if you look at ancient text from India they basically describe how the craft is built. It’s gotta be disc or bell shaped because it rotates a liquid that contains Mercury. Think of a whirpool.

May 29, 2019 at EDT pm

    • The Mercury Vortex Engine. The powerhouse used by ancient Indian engineers to fly their Vimanas around.

Vimanas had anti-gravity and could travel the atmosphere. Some were designed for space travel.

Recent UFO sightings show movements that come from anti-gravity combined with the Mercury Vortex Engine.

The old problems with the Mercury Vortex Engine included contamination from release of the gas produced by superheating the Mercury in the Vortex; and sudden detonations and decelerations from power loss, which is why later designs used the four-poletube emergency exhaust structure noted in later-model Vimanas.

Early wars were fought with Vimanas. Armies would be attacked by Vimanas blasting energy weapons and nuclear bombs.

Remember how the Indus Valley civilization was destroyed by a nuclear explosion 10,000 years ago. Whether this was done by a mad scientist like the LionoftheBlogosphere or due to attack by a Vimana fleet firing nuclear weapons is unclear but the result would be about the same.
