McDonald’s CEO fired

with 12 comments

McDonald’s CEO was fired for having a consensual relationship with an employee that violated company policy.

In a statement Sunday evening, the fast food giant said former president and CEO Steve Easterbrook had demonstrated poor judgment in violating a company policy that forbids managers from having romantic relationships with direct or indirect subordinates.

When Katie Hill was forced to resign from Congress, she whined about how there’s a double standard against women, but we see that she was full of bullshit, men get treated the same or worse.

  1. Is it just me, or the McDonald’s staff from the person mopping the toilet floor to the corporate big wigs is a setting that Bill de Blasio wants?

    Ok, what, who's this again?

  3. Mark Hurd (who just died) was fired by HP for something similar. He seemed to be a pretty good CEO, way better than Fiorina who preceded him. Easterbrook also seems to have done quite a bit of good for McDonald’s, and his violation appears even more minor, since he’s not married. Bad for MCD shareholders, I’d think, though stock only down 2%.

Boards don’t seem to have any way to moderately punish CEOs. Maybe if he’s a good CEO, you just give him a warning or censure?

  4. Well, let me just say as a black man, corporate america is in dire need of more diversity at the top! When will the CEO suites and Wall Street look more and more like Detroit?! I am happy to say that I am ready and available to serve as McDonalds CEO and whats more I will bring the best damn black traits to the job: Fried Chicken, charisma, athletic ability, B.O, and an erratic sense of dress!

    • Ok, now you’re just being a parody of a parody SJW. The Friedberg/Seltzer of sock puppetry.

    • You blew it at B.O. Out of all the “stereotypes” about blacks from the days before most here were born, the single one that isn’t true is the one about smell. Lazy? Yes. Dumb? Mostly. Dishonest? Irrationally Violent? Sure. But stinky? Rarely. I know this because unlike y’all, I’ve dated 11 black girls.

I can tell you this – I didn’t get any STD’s. But that was the ‘80s. Probably worse odds now.

      • Wrong Marty. You may lack the requisite sensitivity to body odor. But black men and women definitely have a distinctive (and strong) body odor. I can discern this simply by being adjacent to them. This has to do with endocrine systems.

  5. You linked to the Daily Mail for the background on Easterbrook’s dismissal. The caliber of its reporting is notably higher than that of mainstream U.S. organs. In this case, the DM article’s fourth paragraph is

    > The recently divorced Easterbrook has three children.

Yesterday’s NBC Evening News and Washington Post ignored this facet entirely in their breathless reports. Obviously the personal part of this seamy personal story is of no possible interest. Perhaps Easterbrook was an eligible bachelor in an ill-starred romance. Or maybe he’s a sleazy can’t-keep-it-in-his-pants guy, cheating on his vows and traumatizing his kids. In Who/Whom World, it doesn’t matter, #CancelHim first and ask questions later.

The treatment accorded to Congresswoman Katie Mills story was even more sublime. I saw the first three NBC News segments (morning, then two evening). For the first two, the reporter followed the Steve Sailer playbook — if you absolutely must report something embarrassing to Our Team, make the story as boring as possible. Thus, the Congresswoman was allegedly accused of having an affair with somebody who might have been on her staff, she’s contrite and has fully apologized, yet illegitimate right-wing websites are still baying for her blood.

If you wanted the interesting story, you had to know enough to ignore NBC’s cant and bring up the Daily Mail website: “Shocking photos of Congresswoman Katie Hill are revealed showing off Nazi-era tattoo while smoking a bong, kissing her female staffer and posing nude on ‘wife sharing’ sites”.

Of course, Katie’s story turned out to be even more, er, readable. First, she and hubby finally hit unicorn paydirt, getting the 22 year old volunteer (10 year age gap) to fall in love with them. Then in May, Katie texts them to say that politics is more important than anything and she’s putting their relationship(s) on ice, breaking the cutie’s heart. Only then did hubby discover that he’s the only one who didn’t know that Katie had started banging her legislative director. Who is a guy not a girl, thus triggering the release of information and divorce proceedings.

But to NBC News, all of this is both irrelevant and boring, what is fascinating is that Katie claims she’s the victim of Revenge Porn, and that right-wing bottom feeders have derailed her Brave and Noble Quest to undertake unspecified feats to protect the oppressed everywhere.

Kind of like Harvey Weinstein pledging to fight even harder against Gun Violence when he was outed. Except that Katie’s good while Harvey is bad.

Text and pics of Katie’s Farewell Address at this Daily Mail update. Doing jobs that American journalists just won’t do.

Yes, that was intentional. I originally was going to link to the NY Times story, but it had less information.

Regarding the rest of your excellent comment, I suspect that the man was the one who cheated here. Not because women never cheat on their husbands, they certainly do, but the husband in this case is a super-rich alpha-male CEO, not a beta-male-provider schlub.
