How to watch YouTube on iOS without ads

with 57 comments

When I watch YouTube on my computer web browser, it’s a totally ad-free experience because I use uBlock Origin which blocks those annoying ads.

But then when I used the YouTube app on iOS, I was forced to waste mucho time watching ads before the actual content I wanted to watch would load.

The solution is to watch YouTube on the Safari mobile browser and NOT in the app. And then you have to install an effective adblocker. AdGuard is the best ad blocker on iOS, and it’s free. But it doesn’t work automatically like uBlock Origin. You have to enable AdGuard in your Safari settings, and then you have to open AdGuard as an app in order to enable additional ad blocking lists. EasyList and EasyPrivacy are the lists used by uBlock Origin, and you can enable them in AdGuard. I also enabled the AdGuard Mobile Ads Filter even though I don’t know exactly what that does, but it sounds good.

Now I can watch YouTube on my iPhone and iPad and not have my time wasted by ads!

You could also pay $11.99/month for YouTube premium, but Google already has enough money, in my opinion. Why should we give Google more money when they have been de-monetizing right-wing content creators?

  1. The You Tube ads I hate the most are for Dr. Squatch Soap and Grammarly. It would be wonderful if both companies go bankrupt.

    • The Squatch soap ads are bad. I am not sure who buys a product from a company who calls him a momma’s boy, etc. Apparently some guys do.

Why do you dislike the Grammarly ads though?

  2. Yes. Why people use the app is beyond me. The app doesn’t even have all the functionality of the web version. There are no buttons for 15 second jumps.

    • “Why people use the app is beyond me.”

By default, the mobile browser tries to redirect you to the app. So that’s a pretty big reason.

    • Downloading and replaying videos for small children to view on long trips when internet access is impractical – the peace is well worth the price.

      • You can download YouTube videos for free with various YouTube downloaders.

Also, I would remove some words from your sentence, so it reads: “small children on long trips is impractical.”

    • You could just hook up a notebook computer to the TV. But yes that’s more of a pain in the ass than having YouTube built right into your smart TV and you can control everything with one remote control. But is that convenience worth $143.88/year?

      Lion of the Blogosphere

November 5, 2019 at EST am

      • Man, you are so prole! Is the convenience worth it? Who asks such questions? No wonder you have low status. $150 a year isn’t even money, so I dont even understand your question.

Plus, you would be funding people who censor right-wing content. Why should we give Google money when they have been de-monetizing right-wing content creators?

Subscribing to any service in order to watch news, shows, movies, jerk off to porn or play games is indeed prole.

November 5, 2019 at EST pm

      • I’m with Leon and JS on this one. When you start thinking $150 isn’t even money then you’re at risk of blowing a lot of money on stuff you don’t need and don’t even really want. I’m not saying it’s a lot of money. I’m saying the mentality is dangerous. And, as Leon points out, you’re giving money to people who hate you. I’m frugal by nature. But it’s even easier when I realize that every dollar I spend feeds the beast. Either some corporation that’s screwing me over or outsourced to one of our nation’s enemies. I don’t buy things unless I really need them or they’re going to make my life better.

      • It is more than that for Canadians 😦 I think it is $14.99 / month Canadian. I’m not happy about paying it. Can you block the ads if you are using Windows 10?

I used to run a general ad blocker on Chrome, but almost every news site I went to forced me to disable the ad blocker before it would let me read anything. It was more annoying than the ads, so I got rid of it. My phone is Samsung. All the ad blockers I looked into forced you to allow them to copy your data.

      • Subscription to petty pleasures and news medium (which could be free) is prole.

An analogy is sort of like proles who ride pricey cruises on a floater to sight see that are free of charge by nature while getting stoned and bloated from eating that cost money.

        Ok, what, who's this again?

If you are saying youtube is just petty pleasures and news, you haven’t even begun to plumb its depths. For example i just watched Brett Weinstein interviewing Douglas Murray about his new book “The Madness of Crowds”

      • I generally hate proles as confirmed by Lion.

My recent trip to Bear Mountain in the Hudson Valley, returning via the Circle Line boat, seeing swarms of proles feasting on disgusting and overpriced junk food while the boat passes by the different counties in NYS and getting stoned with several mugs of beer confirms my warranted hatred for proles.

        Ok, what, who's this again?

November 6, 2019 at EST am

      • I love everybody proles or not, but it’s a pleasure to be able to pay for things and not care about the price. My account has tons of money now and I love it. I’m ready to get married at the age if 60, lolz! And I would like to just chose an engagement ring that I like without looking at the price. Why shouldn’t my girl have the best?

        Yakov

November 6, 2019 at EST am

      • Because the price of diamonds is artificially jacked up by a diamond cartel and marketing. No one can tell the difference between a diamond and a lab-grown moissanite. Even jewelers can’t tell without the use of a microscope and other specialized instruments.

Diamond engagement rings are a scam, an invention of the diamond cartel, no one used diamond engagement rings in the 19th century and before, yet they were still happily married.

        Lion of the Blogosphere

      • Talking about a scam when Circle Line appears to take in easy revenue from proles who can’t seem to appreciate nature in sightseeing tours. When I was on the boat, the tour announcer said about 5 lines of goobledy gook regarding the history along the Hudson Valley in a 3 hour traveling span. Most of the time he was quiet. What’s the point of going to a fall foliage cruise if you don’t want to watch the color of the leaves and the topography, instead you remain inside of the boat reveling with food and drink.

        Ok, what, who's this again?

November 6, 2019 at EST pm

But I didn’t struggle to get where I am just to turn around and badmouth the working class. Especially since they are largely responsible for the standard of living we enjoy. Why everything has to have a benefit for you? I walk out of my yoga practice and I love everyone, am happy and don’t need any benefit from anyone. I’m happy to benefit others. What benefit do you need? You don’t have enough? What are you lacking?

Say, you love a woman, are you seeking to get a benefit from her or to benefit her?

A new version of iOS has given it case of the vapours and it won’t work at all.

But this just a symptom of the huge companies’ addiction to increasing their bottom line by things like farming out testing to volunteer users. And just letting some bugs stand. Disqus admitted they knew about the but weren’t inclined to fix it.

Firearms trivia: a couple of years ago the American Medical Association issued a report on the lethality of various firearms calibers. Its researchers looked at all the firearms homicides in Boston over a several year period and compared them to an equal number of randomly selected nonfatal shootings.
Most of the results weren’t terribly surprising. A 357 Magnum is deadlier than a 22, well duh. But what WAS surprising is the finding that the average shooting victim – not shooter, but victim – had 14 prior arrests.
