Is Akihabara Majokko Princess racist?

This is my favorite music video ever, but is it my white privilege that likes it?

The Japanese men in the video are depicted as short with bad teeth and with a perverted interest in sexualized anime girls with gigantic breasts. The Japanese women in the video passively dress up as anime characters to appease those perverted men.

And then along comes Kirsten Dunst, super-hot white woman who revels in her white superiority over the Japanese. Japanese men want her, and Japanese women want to be her, but all know that she is hopelessly out of their league and all they can do is stare at her brilliant glory like deer transfixed by headlights.

Or maybe I’m just imagining all that.

  1. Eastern Asiatics again. Where’s your opinion again? — Eastern Asiatics are the superhuman race.

    Ok, what, who's this again?

    • Looking down at the Japanese is like black people looking down at the whites for being boring and nerdy.

      • There are no Eastern Asiatic nations on par with White countries in quality of life measures. Just remember that!

        Ok, what, who's this again?

      • His comment was about your opinion not asians.

Since you brought it up, everyone looks down on “boring and nerdy” regardless of race. Boring and nerdy isn’t the same as smart and orderly. Even smart, orderly people look down on boring and nerdy. And I’m sure that’s true in Japan as well.

      • “ There are no Eastern Asiatic nations on par with White countries in quality of life measures.”

You are bonkers if you mean this. Being attacked relentlessly as an evil causing race IS a very big negative quality of life issue. Name the Asian nation wallowing in the deaths of 9 unarmed blacks right now?

        The US is a cesspool.

Also, although breasts in general are really great, Kristen Dunst is barely worth a second glance. She littered her video with unattractive Asians because that’s what actresses do in movies to ensure no other woman outshines her. Here’s what pretty girls look like.

      • The US is a Western cesspool, but Scandinavian countries are not.

The last time I checked, the best and the brightest of the Eastern Asiatics are living in the US for a number of reasons, one being that Asia is a crowded filthy Chinatown. Neither a black man or White man finds China an affable place to develop his career aspirations.

This is true. LotB wants to conflate “smart” with “nerdy” for some reason. Sailer has written persuasively that this confusion is a mid-late 20th century invention.

  2. Since Admiral Perry forced the opening of Japan in 1853 with his Black Ships, you could argue that this is cultural appropriation. You may also want to avoid using chopsticks, just to be on the safe side.

    • There are a few Asian theme restaurants located in the Upper Hudson Valley of NYS that are own by Whites. No one has pointed a finger at them for cultural appropriation.

Given the paucity and sparse Eastern Asiatic populations throughout the HV especially the upper regions, the Asian oriented restaurants are safe for now.

During pre-pandemic times, you would see swarms of Eastern Asiatics during the school year from the various colleges/universities riding the trains up and down the Hudson River or those annoying Chinese tourists checking out an idyllic place such as this:

Just 50 miles north of NYC and it’s another scene altogether.

    • I realize you were joking. However, the influence mostly goes the other way. Early Japan borrowed heavily from Korea and China. But, after the Meiji restoration, Japan deliberately set out to modernize itself based on the western model. Since then, most of the modern world has. Japan was the first to realize it was necessary and act on it. And they got up to speed very quickly, too. Which is very impressive in it’s own way.

    • I just read a book about the Perry episode. What struck me is that the U.S. was so righteously demanding the opening of the country for trade, but they actually didn’t care about trade with Japan. Instead, the U.S. needed coaling stations for steamships on their way to and from China, the only country in the region they wanted to trade with. And Japan was the perfect place to be a coaling station, if they would only “open up.” I wonder if the average Japanese person knows about this very cynical aspect of American-Japanese relations.

what’s going on, you skip over past 3 weeks of crazy protests/covid/rioting and post this?

And there’s a lot of things to talk about besides the riots. How about Trump and the election? There’s big stuff happening there.

  5. The song itself would be racist by modern standards since it’s about masturbation and “turning Japanese” is supposed to mean a guys face contorts to look japanese while jerking off. Except racism only seems to matter when it’s even the most trivial thing involving black people.

So the video has nothing to do with the song and is for people who only pick up on the chorus and misunderstand the lyrics

Lion, you should do a travel blog. Lion goes to Japan! I would certainly enjoy an international Lion adventure.

  9. No clue what you talking about, I see in the clip Japanese people from all walk of life, nothing really special, just normal street scenes. If your company let you work from home you should take advantage and go to Japan for couple of months once corona relax a bit. Just enrol in a Japanese language course to get a visa and work from there. You will grok it better if you stay for a long time. You are much less likely to get corona there than in NY because people there are strict with wearing masks when they are sick.

    • Hashed, that is a great idea. I’d love to do that. But right now, Japan isn’t letting people from the U.S. into their country because they are smart about containing the virus.

      • Probably not, but that’s why i said after the corona relax a bit, maybe work places will still let people to work from home for a while. Will have to jump on the opportunity really fast though. You can stay 90 days as a tourist, so once the gates are open you can immediately hop on an airplane and then see how things develop. It’s 1-2k flying ticket and maybe 3-4k for a 3 months accommodation and the cost of living is not so different to the US. But being in a language course helps you to get to know people.

  10. You allow comments for a blog post and then erase all the comments after a few days. What is the point of allowing comments? If someone writes a comment it will just be erased. Instead of erasing just the comments you don’t like, you erase all of them.

Are all your old comments lost or will you bring them back? You long lamented censorship but over the last few months you have censored 100% of your commenters, erasing what? 100,000 comments? More?

Just saying all commenters are idiots isn’t an answer. It may well be that the reaction to the virus ends up being much worse than the virus, long term. That is a reasonable opinion to have, considering we shut down the economy and the virus is running its course anyway.

  11. Japanese don’t really believe in racism, and they don’t let the sort of people who do complain about racism in to their country, so I don’t see it ever becoming an issue. I feel “No Use For a Name’s” punk version of Turning Japanese is the best rendition of this particular song. The only thing good about the posted version is that Dunst looks extremely hot. Weezer’s Pinkerton album is the best Japanese inspired American musical work. Based loosely on Madame Butterfly and Rivers Cuomo’s own life, it was a commercial failure but is today considered one of the best rock albums of the 90’s. The artwork for the album is a famous woodblock painting by Hiroshige. Weezer is still to this day highly popular in Japan as the Japanese tend to have good musical taste and Cuomo eventually married a Japanese woman.

  12. I used to live near there, and I don’t see anything racist in this video. If anything, she’s poking fun at the Westerners who go to Akihabara and dress up like crazy anime characters and look completely ridiculous, as you can see from the looks that some of the Japanese folks-in-the-street give her. Some people go to Akihabara for that kind of thing, and the rest are just there to buy computer parts.
