400,000 in U.S. dead from Covid-19, just as I predicted

Back in August, I wrote:

[T]he cost of a bozo in the White House is 170,000 dead from the virus, and America’s international reputation shattered. The hypocrisy of Trump supporters who railed on and on about how you shouldn’t vote for Hillary because four Americans died in Benghazi, but the same Trump supporters are totally unconcerned about 170,000 dead from the virus. And with Trump at the helm, 170,000 is likely to become 400,000 before he leaves office.

Today, the day before Inauguration Day, 400,000 deaths.

  1. So is Biden going to wave a magic wand and make the deaths stop? Did Trump cause just the American deaths, or deaths everywhere?

    • Biden might actually be really lucky with his timing. There are estimates that almost 30% of the country has already been infected (https://marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2021/01/we-will-get-to-herd-immunity-in-2021-one-way-or-another.html#comments), including many of the most vulnerable and the vaccine distribution is ramping up too. Not to mention that the holidays are over, and winter will end. So the death rate will start to decline even without Biden doing anything.

      • If the government can get most nursing home patients vaccinated, which is easy enough because they’re essentially a captive population, that alone will drop total deaths by 40%.

  2. Gavin Newsome: dinner party
    Nancy Pelosi: hair salon
Diane Feinstein: No mask in airport.

Politicians going to vacation homes, Cabo, restaurants, etc., etc.

Gee, they are not acting like there is a pandemic. In fact, once the cameras are off, the masks come off.

What does that tell you about the “pandemic?”

  3. The real number dead from COVID in the U.S. maybe closer to 550,000:

  4. A very high percentage of whom were already on the exit ramp from the Road of Life. No, that’s not my original line.
As an illustration of the death rate in a young, healthy, fit population, as of January 4 there had been 110,018 confirmed cases in the US military, and 14 deaths. Yes, fourteen, I didn’t omit any zeroes. That’s 0.0127%.

  5. What is there to say about Trump…the heady days of 2016 turned into the disappointment of 2017, transitioned into the comedy of 2018-19 and ended up in farce with 2020. He turned the Corona from what should have been a godsend for the anti-immigration, anti-globalization forces MAGA was purported to represent into a gigantic victory for the globalist Left. He sullied the reputation of the Right and the Republican party likely beyond repair, and all “we” got for it was tax cuts for the rich, trillions in Funny Money for Wall Street/Silicon Valley and the persecution of his own most fervent supporters. The only redeeming thing that can be said for Trump is that executing this epochal clusterfuck in the space of 4 short years was likely the point all along, and that anyone who got burned supporting this clown post first half of 2017 deserves it for sheer depraved stupidity and personality worship.

Exactly right. Not enough people on the right understand this. And even worse, right wing leaders like Orban and Salvini who positioned themselves well on Corona initially, ended up joining in with the QAnon/ anti mask idiots and weakening nationalists even further.

  8. That’s not so different from what happened in many European countries without a “bozo” president. The countries doing the best are the ones who could and did close the gates like Australia for example. That is what Trump wanted to do in the beginning but was denied by the democrats who said it is “racist” and “xenophobic”.

    January 20, 2021 at 5:38 AM

    • A fake history of the last year. The real story is that Trump did close travel from China, but not completely, and still did it too late, but then didn’t close off travel with any other country where the virus was spreading, especially Italy, because Trump was more worried about the economy than about stopping the virus. But the reality is that countries that took an early hit to the economy to stop the virus came out with a much stronger economy in the end.

LOL. Hashed is spot on; little island nations and totalitarian China types look good, maybe because they can fake their numbers better. North Korea is doing smashing, maybe Lion and Biden will instill that political program upon us. For the future covid victims. And the children.

Trump appeared to do well pushing the vaccine development; the entrenched Democrat bureaucracies, not as well in getting it out there.

      • Nobody did perfectly in the beginning and even now nobody knows what they are doing, things change all the time, Israel did well in the beginning but now the situation is not good even with all the vaccinations. Trump had a good intuition, he also decided to close the gates to Europe after a while and also got scolded for that when he tried to close flights from England. You can’t just put it on him when he had uncooperative opposition both from the democrats and the media from day one of the pandemic. They politicised it as much as he did and caused the situation that it became a political issue rather than a medical one. In places where the democrats and media didn’t care so much like the middle east he did very well

    • The countries that have done the best are Island or De Facto Islands such as South Korea.

A better comparison is look at the states that were hit hard in March/April but learned their lesson (Maryland), the states that refused to learn their lesson that were hit later (the Dakotas), and the states that have done well such as Vermont or Oregon.

  9. With all the disappointments Trump was the best that this poor country had running for presidency. Democracy is not the right system to govern a country at these times. It flourished during a certain historical period, but needs to be replaced with an authoritarian state. The ignorant masses are unfit to vote and the politicians are unfit to rule. Democracy is a fraud where people don’t matter, decide nothing and are decived by the politicians, who don’t intend to deliver on their promises. This is a total chaos.

  10. US reported 1900+ covid death , Germany 1700+. I dunno how reliable the numbers are, but this is what it is. Hillary would do better? Biden? It’s not Trump, but the whole culture that isn’t geared to deal with crisis situation.

Now check this one out. I was walking from Wueens to Brooklyn last night and needed to recharge my phone on the way. I have the charger and the cord, not that this should make any difference, and I didnt find a gas station or a store that was willing to let me do it. Ended up charging it at Home Depot. Is this society capable of dealing with a crisis?

    • ON Jan 20, 2021, the U.S> reported 4386 deaths by summing all of the reported deaths from 55+ state/territory health departments, the DOD, and the VA. Germany had 1052 deaths.

On Jan 21 2021, the U.S. has had 1252 deaths per million while Germany has had 599. The best the U.S. could do would probably to have only 200k deaths instead of 400k deaths.

  11. ON Jan 20 2021, the CDC is reporting that 2,023,124 individuals have received both of their shots and 13,595,803 have received at least one shot. The question is does anyone believe that on April 30th, 2021 will 114 million people will have received at least one immunization. My guess that the U.S. will go so slow in the immunizations that the 2 million who are immunized on inauguration day will need a bosster before the U.S. gets 70% of the population immunized.

    • ON Jan 21, the U.S. is up to 14,270,441 individuals having received at least one shot. That is in increased of about 700K from the day before. So the Biden Administraiton starts out running 300k behind its goal of 100 million shots in 100 days. But I guess the social justice types do not care just as long as whites do not get more shots per capita than blacks.

Trump is definitely a better unifying force than the Democrats. Biden calls for unity but Trump is better with unifying.

Also prepare for him to legalise 30 mil illegal immigrants, and make Puerto Rico and DC states, ensuring the Republicans never win the house or senate again.
