Swiss vote no to immigration

The people of Switzerland voted to curb immigration, “a rebuke to the Swiss government, the banking industry and business leaders who had lobbied against the restrictions.”

Unlike in the United States, the people of Europe are starting to realize how they have been screwed over by liberal immigration. Every year, the people of Europe become more anti-immigration.

Will Americans ever catch up to the Europeans? Will increased anti-immigration sentiment in Europe finally cause the American left to stop idolizing Europe?

It’s going to be hard to fight the elitists in the US because they have so much wealth and a strangle-hold on the MSM. That’s one of the reasons I’ve switched positions on sticking it to billionaires. It’s not my ideal but if they’re going to use their wealth to flood the country with 3rd world migrants then they should be financially castrated.

  1. The immigration situation in the USA is worse than in Europe. Only 63.7% of the USA is non-Hispanic white (and that number includes Middle-Easterners as white). If immigration is not curbed in the next few years in the USA, then there won’t be enough political power to ever curb it in the future.

As for whether the anti-immigration sentiment of Europe will still lionized by liberals, well…I suspect they won’t bring up the anti-immigration sentiment or policies of Europe. It is the old “See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.”

  2. No. Tim Wise will go over there and he will explain things to them and will help them unpack their backpacks of privilege. As a consequence they will ditch rising nativism and they will come to embrace Wise’s vision of anti-racism. Free speech will be completely eliminated and LOtB will be banned from the internet by EU directive thus elevating the self-esteem of millions of NAMs worldwide resulting in higher test scores and greater productivity. European nations will be begging sub-Saharan peoples to immigrate. And the Chinese will be following closely behind. The world will become all goodness and light just as it did when the ANC took over in South Africa.

I’d also like more power brought back down to the state and local levels. It’s much easier for politicians and elitists to abuse political power when it’s consolidated in Washington. I’d like to see Washington castrated as well.

    • So true; I’d never think one day I’d be a punitive taxer, but given how they reduce taxes by not realizing any capital gains, while if you earn six figures you make the transfer payments. Progressive system my arse, earn $500,000, pay 39.8%; make a billion from a startup, borrow against the shares to avoid cap gains tax, stick ’em in a GRAT to avoid estate tax. Hopefully though, the SWPL elite who control the Dems will be knocked out of power, at least whoever the vibrant majority picked themselves would be so incompetant the IRS and NSA would be rendered powerless.

      February 10, 2014 at 9:54 AM

      • The last time campaign finance was “reformed” the bill was sponsored by Russ Feingold and our RINO pal John McCain. It later came out that George Soros was behind the bill. He “reformed” it to increase his own political influence. The whole thing was a farce. They manufactured studies and special interests to push campaign finance reform as a grass roots movement but the whole thing was astroturf. That was about the time he hijacked the Democratic Party. Of course, he didn’t do it by himself. He’s just the front man. So if you want to reform campaign finance you don’t need a new bill. You need to repeal the last one!

    • If the GOP were smart they’d not only be anti amnesty, and pro immigration quotas, but they’d favor transfering federal power to the states. After the Bush-Obama Presidency I’ve concluded it’s the only way to shrink DC.

  6. >>Will increased anti-immigration sentiment in Europe finally cause the American left to stop idolizing Europe?

Yes they will stop idolizing Europe. The left holds certain ideas to be sacred, and diversity/immigration/multiculturalism is one of them. Look at how the American and European left turned against the Russians when the sacred idea of gay liberation was defied. Another sacred idea to the contemporary left (and I really don’t understand why this is so) is Keynesian economics. They are going all in on this the way many of them used to on Marxism. Leftists are funny people.

    February 10, 2014 at 6:37 AM

    • Keynesianism is a sacred cow because it let’s the left have it’s cake and eat it too. The left want’s increased state power and control over all political, cultural, and economic institutions. Keynesianism teaches that the path to economic growth and prosperity is government (not the private sector) to spend more money than they have, Deficits, for lack of a better word, is good.

In a way, supply side serves a similar purpose on the right. Tax cuts increase revenue to government and encourage economic growth. All praise tax cuts!

The oligarchs are still Jewish; Putin only kicked the tails of a few who weren’t on board with his agenda. After jailing a handful the rest fell into line/bought their way into Vlad’s administration.

Secondly we had good relations with Russia in 2004 because Putin offered Bush support after 911.

  7. Northern Euro have more problems with immigration than Southern Euro. Anglosphere nations have it the worst, and social problems in English speaking countries are just beyond dysfunctional (with the exception of Canada).

  8. In America, our largest immigrant group is Latinos. Whatever you think of them, they aren’t as obnoxious, lazy, and crime prone as some of the large immigrant groups is Europe. They won’t behead you for insulting their religion, which is the same religion of the majority of Americans anyway. And our welfare state is less generous, so you can’t freeload as spectacularly here. Maybe that’s why Americans aren’t turning against immigration like the Europeans.

    • Northeast Hispanics such as Puerto Ricans are obnoxious, lazy and crime prone. Sometimes you wonder if our perverted liberal policies has to do with our lack of understanding of behaviorial differences among the different racial groups.

    • The 1st generation of low skilled Latino immigrants is hard working and respectful. The 2nd generation – not so much, plus they have a huge sense of entitlement and lack the cognitive ability to keep upwardly mobile in the workforce.

    • Europeans may more sensitive to demographic change because of their geographic compactness. A small nation like the Netherlands will notice immigration more quickly because they have fewer suburbs and rural areas to retreat to.

  9. in cities like Geneva and Zurich, immigrants make up a massive percentage. Though most do leave as they are on ‘assignment’. Switzerland has always been very open to foreigners to come and work, but obtaining swiss citizenship is onerous (though possible if you want it bad enough). I don’t think these new immigration restrictions are going to affect UBS, Novartis, La Roche, SwissRe, Glencore, CS all too much in bringing in talent and if they want to stay, its not difficult.

  10. This is the predicted result of LESS libertarian-type immigration policies in Switzerland.

Switzerland was the poster child for Libertarians as one good model. Open borders on working immigrants, but tough citizenship AND local immigration control as in right down to the neighborhood. As in a few neighbors dislike you, bye-bye. Then that got changed recently to ‘socially fair’ and ‘pro-business’ Federal control. The result is no control over who was in the neighborhood. Complaints rose.

But instead of saying ‘whoops–let’s go back’ they’re doubling down on MORE Federal control.

  11. Yes, America’s welfare state is less generous than our old world brethren. But the perks of being a hardworking citizen in the USA have its downfall as well. Average American works more than 40 hrs/wk and only get 2 weeks of vacation time. Unemployment insurance is about 25% of your wages (in some Red States, it’s 10%), in Europe it’s a whopping 85%.

Let’s put it this way, America is a proletariat state.

    • Number of vacation days given by certain nations:

      France 30
      Spain 30
      Denmark 30
      Brazil 30
      Germany 30
      Italy 28
      UK 25
      Sweden 25
      Netherlands 25
      Norway 25
      India 25
      Ireland 21
      Argentina 21
      Australia 20
      Canada 16
      Mexico 15
      Singapore 14
      U.S. 14
      Japan 11
      South Korea 10

America ranks almost dead last with those Asian grinds. The USA in many resembles East Asian nations – highly materialistic, status worship with female ultra-hypergamy.

  14. here’s the thing, he said self-importantly, …

europeans could pat themselves on the back for their tolerance as long as immigrants were a tiny minority, just like rich white liberals in the us can pat themselves on the back as long as their children don’t have to go to school with nams and they don’t have to live next to them.

the netherlands, i believe, is the most “diverse” country in europe after the uk.

another thing about ND is despite govt revenues exceeding 50% of its gdp, and despite its “diversity” it is a much richer country than the uk.
