Was he a minority, or a white European?

  1. Born in Mexico, the child of Spanish immigrants. Sailer would call him a “Conquistador-American.”

    • Spanish

      Sooo… not white. Cursed Spaniards.

Definitely alpha, though. Never forget that this scene IS distilled alpha power (one of my top three favourite scenes in all of TV/film), and is not exaggerated or over-the-top in the least:

“Go or stay…but do it because it is what you wish to do!”

Then Khan makes Marla McGivers beg to stay with him.

    • Mr. Roarke was Pakistani???

      • Dunno about Mr. Roarke, but Khan Noonian Singh was a Sikh.

In “Space Seed,” most of his followers were fairly swarthy. But in TWOK, they were all blond, blue-eyed, and buff. (Few, if any, of them looked older than thirty.) Presumably this change was made to emphasize the point that “Silly rabbit, genetic engineering is for Nazis!”

Khan’s wife was an Irishwoman with dark red hair:

But somehow their son came out looking like a model for an SS recruiting poster:

(Due to the incompetence of his agent, Judson Scott’s name was excluded from both the opening and end credits of the film.)

Of course, in the J.J. Abrams Drekverse, Khan looks exactly like Benedict Cumberbatch.

      • I think he means Khan from Star Trek, though I’m not sure if Khan was supposed to be Pakistani.

Montalban was pretty swarthy and greasy looking as Mr. Roarke. Mr. Roarke could’ve passed for Pakistani:

  8. Stereotype alert! We just came back from a newly opened Starbucks, and three of the four employees fit squarely within the barista stereotype.

    1. Thin blonde girl in her late teens/early 20’s with remnants of purple dye in her hair and several visible tattoos. I have no doubt there were others I couldn’t see.
    2. Mid-20’s male with brown hair, didn’t see him as clearly but noticed one of those hideous hipster man buns. That’s all I needed to see.
    3. Moderately overweight mid-/late-20’s male with long scraggly hair and a neckbeard. He might as well have been wearing a T-shirt proclaiming “I am a geek.”

The only non-stereotypical employee was a tall Caribbean Hispanic in his early 20’s, I would guess his ancestry as 90% European and 10% African, so he probably is Puerto Rican rather than Dominican.

For all the talk about Starbucks’ post-Philadelphia policy changes (can sit without buying, free donicker access) turning the stores into skell hangouts, I saw no signs of such. All the other customers seemed like ordinary people. Then again, this store is in a location not easily accessed by foot.

    • Maybe somewhere there’s a coffee shop where all the employees are Chads* and Staceys*.

Oh, wait, no. Chad would be the executive VP of the chain and Stacey would be the mother of his five kids and a devoted corporate spouse, making small talk with other wives of executives at fundraising events.

As for Becky*, she would work at Hooters. But she wouldn’t be swimsuit calendar material, just a mildly attractive girl who’s earning money for college.

I’m being serious there. The last time I was at Hooters, as I was leaving I saw one of the girls get off her shift. She had on her glasses (which she did not wear while working) and was putting on her sorority windbreaker.

Now that’s what we need. A brestaurant catering to guys with a geek-girl fetish. Like this:

“Black all over my body, Max Factor 2880, then a lighter brown, then Negro Number 2 [the name of a shade of make-up], a stronger brown. Brown on black to give a rich mahogany. Then the great trick: that glorious half yard of chiffon with which I polished myself all over until I shone…The lips blueberry, the tight curled wig, the white of the eyes, whiter than ever, and the black, black sheen that covered my flesh and bones, glistening in the dressing room lights.”

  10. ResetEra has a good thread about the 2020 Dem contenders: https://www.resetera.com/threads/daily-beast-2020-democratic-prospects-already-making-moves-behind-the-scenes.58997/

Most of them seem to want Garcetti, the mayor of LA.

I hadn’t considered Garcetti but he does seem like somebody that the neoliberal shills could rally around.

In 2004, it was obvious from the beginning that the only serious contenders were Kerry and Edwards. The Dems are kinda in the same position that the Republicans were in in 2015 before Trump announced: a lot of contenders but they were all weak.

Like I have said many times, the Dems should nominate Corey Booker. But they are too stupid to do so. It seems to me like Harris is the most likely candidate to win the nomination but the fact that she hasn’t caught fire with the base yet has to be a huge point of concern.

Bernie is definitely running, no matter how much the neoliberal shills wish that he would just go away. I don’t think that Biden will run because he is a senile old fool and #MeToo makes him irrelevant.

I expect Gillibrand to drop out early after she is exposed as the lightweight that she is and I don’t think that Warren will run at all. The serious contenders will be Bernie, Garcetti, Booker and Harris. Garcetti wins IA and NH and then Harris sweeps the South, after which Booker drops out. The election then turns into a race war with blacks backing Harris at close to a 100 percent and Bernie and Garcetti splitting the non black vote. Bernie will win some primaries but Garcetti will win the plurality of the delegates, followed by Harris and then Bernie bringing up the rear.

The Dems will have a brokered convention with Harris coming out on top after a deal with Bernie for his delegates.

Harris will go down in flames in the general.

      • 1. He’s a black male so he will get Obama level black turnout
        2. Because he’s black he can afford to ignore pandering to black voters and instead spend all his time going after white swing voters. Hillary in contrast was forced to run on full bore white genocide in a vain attempt to goose black turnout and that strategy probably cost her the election.
        3. Whites in general, and white moderates in particular, love articulate and affable black men
        4. He is a neoliberal shill which is extremely important for holding on to moderate suburban whites

    • Booker wouldn’t have a chance in the general.

The Dems are surprisingly conservative in terms of their party apparatus – more so than the Republicans. I mean conservative with a lowercase c.

They will nominate someone like Joe Biden, if not Biden himself. For Veep, a middle of the road female. But Warren may have a chance.

I for one would enjoy seeing this. Biden is a complete phony, and with his comments about transgenderism has proven himself to be a sop to degenerate, corrosive insanity, but he knows how to mouth the old Democrat bullshit about da woikin’ man. Warren has some real creds on this. (But she would be mercilessly mocked by Trump for the Fauxcahantas business.)

Comparing Soho to an entire city is apples to oranges. Regardless, more expensive isn’t necessarily better. Paying more for less is no bargain. That’s the down-side of “prestige”. It causes people to do things that are not in their interest.

Manhattan’s median annual household income is only $66,739. That’s high compared to the national average. But not when you consider that more of it is eaten up by the higher cost of living.

Montalban is white. “White” (lc “w”) isn’t a scientific taxonomy. It’s a word with varying meanings. A person who has an African great great great grandmother and all the rest European ancestry is white. Johnny Depp descends from an indentured servant who was half-black. Is he white?

  13. There are two kinds of people happy to declassify Ricardo as “white” and reclassify him as a POC: white supremacist neo-Nazis and anti-racist leftists. Both equate White with Central/NW European and are happy to keep that little ethnic corner as pure as possible, the former because they are racial purists, the latter because they blame Central/NW Europeans for slavery and colonialism and want a big tent ethnic army to overwhelm them.

Spaniards colonized the world and had slaves, too, you say? Well, they get a pass, because they bred with the natives and even some of the slaves, so they are now mestizo and therefore POC even if they just look like white people with good tans.

Vargas, a high level official in the Mexican drug enforcement bureau, was supposed to be a member of the Mexican elite — urbane, well-educated, sophisticated.

  15. Montalban is “Southern European” type, which is code for a Cro Magnid with a higher than average Neanderthal and possibly some African admixture, due to his ancestors being on the front line of an invasion by another race some time ago. Over time, all of our southern border populations have come to be represented by this mixed transitional type. We consider them to be Europeans of a type and mostly (but often not fully) culturally “White”, but also definitely mixed race. Europe should back them up in wars against foreigners but not allow for too much migration North.
