Trump could be leading in the polls by over 50% in each state, and the media would still be promoting Bush or Fiorina as the presumptive nominee.
I’d love to see an in-depth Lion post on how the GOP nomination process works. IE: if all elected officials back Bush, could Bush win the nomination even if Trump wins majorities or pluralities in each primary?

I believe the SurveyMonkey poll is the most accurate, and it shows Rubio trailing Bush 7% to 9%. If you want a pro-immigration guy from Florida who speaks Spanish, why not just go with Bush, the guy who has already locked up more than a hundred million dollars of donations.
Or perhaps the establishment dream team is Bush as president and Rubio as vice president.

Bush is utterly unappealing and has nothing going for him besides connections. Very few people want another Bush presidency. Rubio has very limited strengths, but that’s better than Bush’s negative charisma. Still, Republican establishment types are so dense that Bush will probably outlast Rubio. There’s still a real chance of it being Bush/Fiorina 2016 in the end, Bush being too meek to go full-scale negative on Hillary, and thus his handlers might want to hire Fiorina for the attack dog role. I think Hillary is probably going to beat any of these Republicans, but I also think anything’s possible because she is so unpopular, too. So, who knows, it could be Carly Fiorina one heartbeat away from the presidency 18 months from now. Bush/Rubio is certainly possible, kinda feels like overkill to me. If he hasn’t already, Bush would have to register to vote in some other state (like Dick Cheney did at the last minute in 2000), but he’s rich so that shouldn’t be too difficult.

I can believe that teachers are too stupid to tell the difference between a nerdy kid’s digital electronics project and a bomb. We know that education majors have the lowest SAT scores of all college students.
The clock is just a circuit board and some LEDs. Maybe there’s a reason why people think Texans are stupid.
It’s true that the clock is just some nerdy tinkering and not something that Ahmed invented, but I don’t see how it makes a difference. Most 14-year-old nerdy kids are not super-geniuses. How many 14-year-olds could even rewire an existing clock circuit board?

Did any of them claim that they thought it was a bomb? Remember, he was detained due to allegedly perpetrating a “bomb hoax;” he wasn’t detained because anyone thought he actually had a bomb. The two are completely different.

If the teachers really thought this project was a bomb, they would have evacuated the school and called in a bomb squad, which didn’t happen.
AFAIK, the accusation against this child is that he brought in a hoax bomb. And the circumstances are pretty suggestive that this was in fact a hoax bomb. Why else would somebody take the covering off a digital clock; put the components in a sinister-looking case; bring the entire device in to school; and plug it into the wall during an English class? It looks like the goal was to evoke a negative reaction from people, which in fact happened.

I saw Mark Cuban on Bill Maher’s show. Cuban lives in the area, and said sources told him the kid kept showing it to different teachers. No problems. The English teacher was the 6th teacher he showed it to. The police didn’t think it was a bomb (no evacuation), but arrested him for a hoax

I don’t have enough information to say for sure if the kid intended to scare people, but if the kid told everyone “I built a clock” and never said “I built a bomb,” I think he’s just a nerdy clueless kid.
Even though the liberal media is wrong about this stuff most of the time, even a broken clock is right two times a day.

I don’t buy into a narrative. I don’t particularly like Muslims. I just don’t see the evidence that the liberal media is wrong about this case.
If the evidence shows otherwise, I will change my mind.
The people who should be arguing the point are the school people who punished the kid and who called the police to have him arrested.
The supposed “real story” http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/09/18/real-story-istandwithahmed/ doesn’t have any substantial evidence that the kid was nothing more than a nerdy kid, who happens to have an annoying father, and was nervous when the police interviewed him (which I certainly would have been when I was 14).

I do think it is 80% likely that the kid was trying to cause a reaction. All he did was take a clock out of its case. And ten he showed it to teacher after teacher. In the movies a bomb is always in a briefcase with some wires, a circuit board and a digital timer LCD.
He didn’t show it to teacher after teacher in disobedience to be asked to put it away because he was proud of himself. After all, it only took him a couple of minutes to take it out of the plastic cover it was sold in. His poor English teacher. Why on Earth was is parading it around English class?

Maybe he was an aspergery kid who was clueless. A kid like that would think it would be cool to disassemble an old LED clock. Aspergery kids will talk endlessly about their weird interests even though no one is interested in them.
This is really something for the teachers to explain. Did the kid have of a history of doing nerdy stuff like that?

I’m not sure you’d get straight information from them. What I would like to see is a transcript of his conversation with the authorities before he was arrested. Apparently and allegedly he gave “passive-aggressive” answers to their questions.
But anyway, the circumstantial evidence is pretty damning, even if you ignore the fact that he has an attention-seeking father.

The kid made an obvious Hollywood-style fake bomb that would have earned him a barrage of bullets if he brought it within 500 feet of Obama. The media just used the trivial incident to bash white people (their favorite thing!) It was a prank that worked 1000 times better than expected.
Dawkins went against the grain for the first time in his life and so must suffer.

Dawkins thinks for himself and he is a very smart man. He has attacked Islam quite a lot of times, and he has made himself a persona non-grata among the feminists by mocking their focus on petty offenses.. He defended an anthropologist who called primitive tribes primitive. Basically he doesn’t give a crap about political correctness.
I do wonder if he regrets attacking Christendom so much in the UK as he ponders the alternative.
