Elizabeth Warren insults Native Americans

The NY Times reports that Native Americans are pissed at Elizabeth Warren for “privileging nonindigenous definitions of being indigenous.”

I can’t say I understand that sentence, but it’s funny when the people pushing political correctness can’t follow their own rules. It’s time for Warren to step down and let someone more woke take her place.

  5. They’re pissed off because she blatantly used Native American credentials to get a tenured position at Harvard. Whitey was actually supposed to let Indians get ahead, not for Whitey herself to get ahead. If you think about it, this actually does conform what minorities say about whites using privilege to get ahead in a twisted way.

They secretly know whites are more intelligent than them and resent that. They just can’t call it out because it would validate biological determinism, something which our egalitarian society stridently denies.

As for the usage, it probably was pretty clever of Warren to use it to leapfrog the competition at Harvard given how competitive it is. I don’t deny that she is smart, just that she played an underhanded technique (admittedly, other prospective academics do so in order to get tenure since it is so coveted). In the age of Rachel Dolezal and others being caught, the technique won’t fly anymore.

    • If Warren had simply said that like many in the USA that she had some Amerindian ancestors and was proud of that, she would have been fine. But this is not how the far-left works. It’s all a manipulation for them. The far-right represses, the far-left lies. For them ‘truth’ is a very believable lie.

That she ‘doubled down’ when denounced by Cherokees shows how reality-free she is…

  10. As an aside, I like the use of the word “privileging” in place of the phrase “arguing for” or “suggesting.” That way, you can short circuit any argument of an opponent by suggesting that there is some inequality in their proposition, even if it has nothing to do with the proposition. For example, “Lion privileges Robert Heinlein’s theories of society.” Which must be wrong, because privilege is wrong, unless it is earned. And saying something doesn’t make it earned. This of course leads to absurdities like “you’re privileging the idea that you earned money because you worked for it.”

  14. Her far left counterpart Bernie Sanders is loved by Native Americans. I know this because I attended a Bernie rally in 2015. There were a lot of Natives there (I live near an Indian reservation), they were handing him gifts they made and they wildly applauded when Sanders said that Native Americans are the original environmentalist, long before it became trendy. If Warren didn’t make a mockery out of Indian ancestry they would probably like her too…but they don’t and I’m happy about that.

If they were 45’s the girl in the red shorts at the 2:10 mark would be doing hang cleans and multiple squats with 405 pounds, which would be not far off a world record. Not to mention incredibly dangerous without spotters or a rack.

  18. It’s funny the cherokee want to discount dna in this instance, but previously desired to exclude african freedmen from tribal membership since they weren’t genetically native american.

Either way warren is less than 1% native american.

One reason I did an ancestrydna test was curiosity if there had been any “contact” between native americans and my part of the family that came over 1700s. I have a great-to-some-exponent uncle who was killed by indians so if follows reason there might have been other contact, consensual or not.

I’ve read a few captivity narratives of white women held by various tribes and one thing they adamantly point out is they were never “violated” in any way despite being beaten, starved and otherwise ill treated. Assuming this is true, it makes you wonder why they weren’t raped along with all the other abuse. Was there some kind of NA taboo against sexual contact with white women? I know it was common for white soldiers to take NA “fort wives” but it seems, historically, white women reproducing with native american men by force or otherwise was rare.

    • I think it’s mostly about social status, work, and material possessions.

Natives didn’t own a lot of stuff. Hunter-gatherers work about 4 hours a day. If you were a white lazy man who just wanted to go hunting and fishing, you could get a native wife, and she wouldn’t nag you to better yourself.

On the other hand, if you were a white woman, and got a native husband, you could look forward to sleeping on the ground, owning one set of clothes, and having a husband with no job, and no status whatsoever in your own culture, and no ambition beyond going hunting and fishing.

I don’t have any statistics on this, but a historian who studied the time period told me that it was somewhat of a scandal how many lazy white men ‘went native’.

      • Yes and no. Fanny Kelly’s captivity narrative is remarkably graphic, describing crimes in detail committed against her and other women and children. She was not shy about what happened to her. But she makes a point that she was never raped, and claims one Sioux- after she had lived with the tribe more than a year- proposed partnership to her which she declined. I’m no expert but have read some and can’t recall any mention of indian men raping colonial women. All kinds of murder and torture, yes, but not rape. Which makes me wonder if there was some NA cultural taboo against rape or sexual contact with white women.

      • “Rape and warfare have gone hand in hand since prehistory.“

The Spanish claimed the NAs destroyed Juan Pardo’s string of forts in North Carolina and Tennessee back in 1565 when the NA women started pushing out mixed babies. Some believe the story of the destruction was a head-fake to mislead the English and that the Spanish never left, just mixed in with the natives. It is a sign of the times that too many modern historians presume the NA mixed births were the result of rape though the Spanish records suggest so.

    • “but previously desired to exclude african freedmen from tribal membership“

I understand the Cherokee have been fighting a war against fake Indian tribes for years and that there has been an ongoing battle in the state of Tennessee relating to state recognition, as opposed to federal recognition, of some of these tribes composed mostly of white, and possibly black, poseurs.

Simultaneously, there has been a battle between some factions of the Creek Peoples and Cherokee where the Creek make an assortment of claims regarding Cherokee legitimacy based on the idea that the British gave too much territorial status to the Cherokee because the Cherokee were partially amalgamated with stateless Spanish exiles who were easier to deal with.
