Should white New Yorkers be afraid?
Reported in the NY post and linked to from the Drudge Report:
An attacker pummeled a bus passenger so hard he smashed the bones in his face after calling the victim a “cracker” in Manhattan – marking the second time in two days that people appeared to be randomly targeted in racial tirades against white people, authorities said.
The white man who was attacked a few days ago in Union Square died today.
Should white people in New York City be afraid? In both these cases, a white person was in a public place in broad daylight and was a sudden victims of extreme violence from a black man.
(You may wonder what a white person was doing on a bus in Harlem, but the bus in question passes through Harlem in its route between 105th St and West End Avenue (gentrified neighborhood that I would normally think is very safe in the daytime), Columbia University (Ivy League!) and Astoria (white part of Queens) and LaGuardia Airport, so the victim could have been a grad student or employee at Columbia University who lives in Queens.)

we should not be afraid, because bill deblasio will end stop and frisk and then minorities will not be angry and violent. it is clear that violating their civil rights makes them engage in random acts of violence.

Does this happen often in NY? I remember a story about a woman being burned alive in an elevator from a guy wearing a exterminator suit. There was also the time where a lot of elderly Asians were being targeted for robbery and beaten. Is taking the subway much safer than the public buses? I’m visiting NY soon, although I’m pretty aware of my surroundings; do you have any safety advice for us out of towners?

Being gay he will not have any kids to raise in Harlem. Nobody likes the thought of being targeted by blacks for (often lethal) attacks. But the thought of it happening to your kids is even worse.

Agree completely. When did white males become afraid of blacks? Hispanics sure as hell aren’t afraid of them so why should whites be such pussys? I don’t ever recall as a young man and living around blacks being afraid of them. I knew and they knew that if they attacked they’d get a beating in return. They may have arm length but whites have muscle strength.

Lion, it would make sense with the onslaught of upper middle class and wealthy Whites, and others (Asians for example) coming into the Big Apple for school and work, that disenfranchised – have nots blacks (the typical black residents in NYC) and certain Hispanics, would feel a sense of inferiority and inadequacy, such that taking out their frustrations on others is the norm, as the city becomes more and more gentrified.
A White guy (a Columbia student, as he was wearing a collegiate T-Shirt) was once pummeled in the face by a Hispanic guy (Dominican, most likely) riding the IRT 1 train, as it was traveling into Washington Heights, a horrific event that I witnessed a few years ago. He looked at him and said hi to the Hispanic guy, who took it as an affront, and then punched him yelling “Don’t look at me, you effing White boy”. The Columbia student didn’t fight back or say anything, but just patted the bruise on his face with his hand, and some of the passengers asked if him if he was ok. He of course was naive and should have known better that greeting strangers in NYC is not a norm, especially with non-Asian minorities.

It happens literally everyday whenever whites live among blacks. In NYC it appears to have gotten a little better in the last two decades due to the crime control policies of Bloomberg and Guiliani. But those days are coming to a close (DeBlasio)and soon there will be more blacks killing/attacking whites (and other non-blacks).

I remember in the early 90s thinking that a white Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton type would surely materialize in response to things like these attacks (often against the elderly or children). But this never happened for some reason. I still wonder why. Whites will march, vote, donate and organize (on both sides) over abortion, gay marriage, taxes, gun control, the environment …etc. But they refuse to even talk publicly about black-on-white race attacks which are much more dangerous than two men getting married.

Remember Nixon’s war on drugs? Reagan’s substantial reduction of the welfare system? Clinton’s tough on crime mantra? There was a white reaction albeit indirect and it worked a little too well. Crime dropped to 1950’s lows and it spoiled everyone.

When I visit relatives in NYC they always give me the same two warnings – never go north of central park and avoid subway trains that go to/from Harlem.

The subways aren’t that bad and are very fast. Most of them don’t spend more than 1/2 hour on them. Encountering a deranged racial minority can be a common sighting, but most NYers just ignore them and everything is ok. They usually don’t have the nerve to pull something outrageous in a large crowd of passengers.
Furthemore, many of the rich and TOOS ride cabs.

Thanks for the heads up. This confirms the need to avoid Harlem, which is relevant to my life.
I’ve ridden this bus frequently. My significant other lives near Columbia, and I have to take the Metro-North to work. This bus runs the most direct route to the 125th st Metro-North station (it’s also a quick and cheap way to get to LaGuardia: on Thursdays and Fridays I see many yuppies waiting with suitcases at 125th and Park, which is where the M60 intersects with the 4-5-6 subway line). At 7:30 AM, the Harlem streets tend to be tame, and I’ve never felt unsafe. No music, no brown bags; young black men simply aren’t out and about at that hour.

The dangers of a white person living in a heavily black area are greatly exaggerated. I lived in a low income and 90%+ black area of buffalo for over a year and had no problems. I would even walk around the neighborhood at night for exercise. And I used to blast “springtime for hitler” with the windows open. No one ever bothered me.

I hate to play devil’s advocate but these random horrific crimes often have as much to do with mental illness as race. The paranoid delusions of schizophrenics are often racially tinged; Andrew Goldstein, who inspired Kendra’s Law, was convinced of a Jewish conspiracy (for instance) which he ranted about in court. He later killed himself in prison. Racially targeted muggings, rapes, and mob attacks are different though.
